Somebody on Gearspace said the paid version is their favorite Distressor emulation (from the thread "Best Distressor plugin in 2023 to substitute the hardware?"): "Kiive Xtressor, UAD, and FG-Stress all sound great and do a phenomenal job emulating the real deal.

Demo them and pick the one that best matches your workflow.

Personally, I prefer Kiive — no UAD DSP needed, and no Slate VMR plugin wrapper to worry about."

Distressor is native now at Universal Audio

If I'm not mistaken, a developer called Ronan Fed has recently released an updated version of the "Pneuma" virtual synth called "Pneuma Pro". You can see the list of features and download links here:

I briefly skimmed through the video showing some presets; this could be a solid choice for anyone looking for a capable arp-driven synth. The overall sound and concept remind me of Hybrid 3 a bit.

Same here for the same reasons. The BOZ is decent, but imo the Klanghelm is nothing short of magnificent. I went ahead and bought the full version of it. Very good price...basically always on sale commensurate with Waves sale pricing. BTW, I spent some time with the other freebies and they're all very good imo. Quality level reminds me of Tokyo Dawn which is to say high.
High praise indeed!
The TDL freebies are amongst the best there are, and I'm still more likely to die up Molot than Molotok GE, though you can prise Kotelnikov and L6GE from my cold, dead DAW!

It seems that Cinematique Instruments has started yet another experimental program. This one is called "Mad Libs". It is based on sound sources the team members were asked to create within a given theme.

At the bottom of the page, you can find a free Xmas instrument based on this project. It weighs about 700 Mb and runs in a full version of Kontakt 5 or later.

You can get a free copy of the "Wursy" electric piano plugin by Sampleson by subscribing to their YouTube channel:

This regularly costs 20$. For those not familiar with Sampleson, they mostly produce replicas of the old-school keys by using modeling rather than sampling. Therefore, they have a tiny footprint. This one weighs merely 30 MB and runs in a dedicated plugin compatible with all major DAW software on Windows and Mac. It can also be used in a standalone mode.

P.S. I'm not sure is this a time-limited offer or not.

I just stumbled upon another time-limited free deal.

This Kalimba-based instrument runs in a dedicated plugin available in VST3 and AU formats. It can also be used in a standalone mode.

The developer by the name of "Variety of Sound" has recently released a free reverb plugin aimed at ambient and cinematic music, called "Epic Clouds":

The plugin is Windows-only, available in VST and VST3 formats.

From what I read, it specialized in huge-sounding reverb sounds, incl. those of the open spaces.

As I often compose and produce music in ambient and cinematic styles, I'm rather intrigued by this and whether it offers something different in comparison to my go-to Valhalla collection (Room, Shimmer, Supermassive). As a K14 owner, I also have access to Raum, which I like more and more.

First impression: really great one for ambient stuff. For testing put it on the master between the EQ stuff and the rest and even there was better then I imagined it would be. It simply has that "something" for ambient stuff

I guess these are the same samples from the Pianobook Epic Guitar, that’s not available anymore.
I don't know.
Trying to download The Vault (1,3GB) for the first time, but it fails and restarts several times already from scratch. Can't afford to spend all my monthly Internet data plan this way. :-(
The downside of having their own player is that you have to download it each time from scratch (because it's a new version with the new samples) and it will be bigger and bigger as library are added.
It would be great if you could pick and choose which library include/exclude.

I didn't have any problem downloading it.

I downloaded the update and watched the YouTube video and, yes, it’s the same samples as Epic Guitar. Specifically, it’s the Longs NoFX patch from Epic Guitar, with a fixed mic mix and a slightly different EQ. There were a few more articulations (trems and staccatos) in the original that are not included in the Vaults version. But is nice that it’s available again, anyway. It sounds great.

I will try this although it's mostly just a re-release of the "Epic Guitar" library I already have.

In any case, with LABS's uncertain status and future and rather quiet period at Pianobook, this new free series is certainly worth looking into. As @juliandoe wrote above, the plugin itself could do with some improvements. The samples don't seem to have particular depth in terms of available dynamic layers and RRs but compensate for this with great character.

A while ago, I stumbled upon this Kontakt library. Now it's available at Plugin Boutique too as a free download:

The library features a selection of sounds suitable for Balkan and Middle-Eastern music. IIRC, I have tested this in the past. The sounds are a bit two-dimensional - they feel more like patches on a digital synth rather than more detailed Kontakt instruments. However, it is an interesting collection that might be handy to have around if needed.

The library works in a full version of Kontakt.

To be fair though taqsim is actually pretty useful in its ios version, the free instruments they give are super solid and their entire library there is available for like 30 bucks and it comes with a loooot of instruments. Some are more useful than others of course

Their Solo Lead has caught my attention a couple of times recently, most recently due to it's current APD offer, and largely because it sounds like it should be pushing it's physical modelling chops, but appears to be far closer to traditional subtractive.
Intrigued to see if the freebie brings any clarification.
