Legato Update for Berlin Strings (2024)

I am not sure what you mean, but for the Celli: the low C is an empty string and that naturally has a different resonance compared to fingered notes. It cannot do vibrato for the same reason. That is why it sticks out.

What is your problem with the Violins? I am not sure ...

I'd lean on the side of reporting it. Even if there's some installation related bug causing non-looping sustains, that just sounds like a bug in SINE to me.

How bad it is once you add the rest of the orchestra and reverb and all that? Unless it's a solo part, how much does this really stick out? Asking seriously, not trying to be the big jerk here! It dawned on me that a bad loop in a bass note might be somewhat masked by a full arrangement.

The basses have been weak in my experience ... kind of like whiney vomit? In the upper register?

Anyways not too much to be done. Buy Ben Wallfisch strings to fix. I mean it?

BS - Violins: I notice a sudden dip and then jump in volume in the legato transition for that particular interval. I would like to know if this unnatural sounding transition also occurs to other users of BS or if it's just how the legato sound.

BS - Celli: I think there is no legato transition to C1. I don't hear any transition sample; it only plays the initial attack of the note.

Compared to BSS (same MIDI file),

I see. There's a bit of a bump in volume in the violins during the transition so it's possible the transition volume is set too low or something. I'd report both.

Regarding the Cello, I think that is also due to the C being an empty string. That is why the player didn’t slur it. It doesn’t disturb me, as it sounds as expected IMO

Now I also hear what you mean with the Violins I Legato ... well, it looks like there is some backed in swell in that transionsion or that swell happens because of the crossfade. Whatever the reason: it doesn't sound unnatural to me (although other transitions in Berlin Strings still do).

Berlin Strings legatos do not sound as consistent and perfect throughout as CSS for example does. That is not the strength of this library, but they have improved with the latest update. There are less transitions that sound blurry or wonky as fuck. But there are still some that do! Someone mentioned the Violas earlier. There are some tuning issues with these. Once you layer the legatos with another library, some of those problems disappear however ...

I didn't get an email either. Did it only go out to "full" owners of BS? (I only own BS Violin 1 Longs & Shorts)
 
Crap, while I received both emails, I forgot to act on the voucher lol.... oh well, I still very much appreciated it.

Yes, confirmed. Didn't receive any mail, and I would have know if it had been considered as spam. It used to work for me but I can't tell when it stopped working.

Thank you for that ! But as the code was made public, I was able to use it (to get Rimba).
