Legato Update for Berlin Strings (2024)

Downloading now, but at a far (far) slower pace than usual on SINE. Half an hour in, and the first patch is just now unpacking.

Just read the announcement on my email. phew... finally... finally.

But I also haven't yet downloaded the update. Curious to see other's opinion about it!

I'm testing now. There were a few bumps that I didn't like at slower speeds and they seem to be gone. But beware of one thing: if you have BS (or any Sine lib) in your template, you'll need to reload each patch as for some reason, it will keep the previous version if you don't.

Thanks for the heads-up! Would have been great if we didn't reload the patches, but I guess - it is what it is!

I suspect this is by design, as you don't want an update necessarily to override the current state of a project. The SF app has a setting where you can update a library in a project without completely needing to reload it (with other new settings and such). I don't know if Sine has anything like that or if you have to manually reload the patch.

Absolutely, and it makes sense! I hate when an update breaks a project. (...but I also used BSS in my template after the vlns update and didn't notice any difference until it hit me that it was using the previous version 🤪)

What I'm a little confused about it how custom mix merges are affected when having to update like this...if I have to redownload the samples all over again don't I then need to redo my mic merges or does SINE somehow magically update the mic merges with the new samples?

I see my mic mixes are still there but I don't see how they could possibly be updated with the new samples...and Ii there are no new samples then why was this such a big download?

Sounds like a good query for OT support!

It's likely new samples that replace the old ones. No new recordings or anything, but probably a couple in file tweaks here or there which require re-downloading the whole library since the files are compressed into larger files, so changing like a 1MB sample would require redownloading the 2GB archive that it's in.

The mic merges probably will still work since there are no new files, but they probably won't have all the benefits of the new update for any in-file modifications.

Just my guess!

OK from the OT support. It seems that SINE WILL load the new versions in old projects after an update...

Important:

If you have created Merged Positions, you will need to re-create them after an update. To do that, delete the old positions by clicking them in the Library View and then just merge again from the mixer.

Note: Your existing projects will load the new versions of the instruments automatically after an update. Changed settings (like legato, velocity layers...) you made will be preserved, but if there are general changes, your existing projects may sound slightly different depending on the nature of the changes. If you are in doubt whether you should update, send us an email and we will be happy to advise!

I own the BS Violin 1 a la carte and didn't get any e-mail, which is fair I guess! Downloading very slowly, and I need to pack my computer for a trip very early tomorrow. Ah, the agony!

Does the download work for anyone or the servers are overcrowded?
I have a new computer (yay!) and had to download Sine yesterday, and it took forever, so I don't think it's just that the servers are being pounded today. (Though it may have gone from slow to glacial because of that.)
