Out Now: Areia - Cinematic Ensemble Strings

Hi,

Is there any way to control the Volume of the Legato-Overlay sounds (Spicc, Stacc., Marc.) that are triggered when not playing legato style ?

I find the overlay volume too loud to use at this time, it would be great if there was some control over the relative volume of the overlay so we can set it to taste, matching it nicely to the legatos. Any chance this might be possible in the future ? I didn't find any way to adjust their volume.

I recall someone asking about this, any feedback on this detail ?

Cheers,
Muziksculp
Yeah, I mentioned it earlier in the thread but there was no response from any other users. I know Dirk Ehlert mentioned it in his live stream of the update too. Short overlay volume for the legatos would be great to have and is pretty much unusable at this time with the current level settings. One of them was okay but the other two scared the crap out of me when I tried them.

From what I can tell after playing around with the legatos a bit, is that the volume of the short overlays can be controlled via velocity. Simply adjust the velocity of a note to change the volume of the overlay.

This velocity setting won't interfere with the velocity that determines the type of legato transition because the overlays only play on unconnected non-legato notes.

O.k., I might be missing a step here. I purchased the full version of Areia via crossgrade. I deleted my Areia Lite library from my SSD card but Native Access still shows Areia Lite when I download. Any thoughts?

I think they are two separate libraries?- as in you can have them both installed at the same time and they each have their own serial number.

That's what I thought about the separate serial numbers. But when I check on Native Instruments, there's no serial number listed for Areia after I paid the crossgrade.

They should have included that in your email you got when you purchased, make sure you didn’t overlook this email or it didn’t go to your spam folder. From [email protected]

Yep, I checked my spam email but no code, which I thought was odd. I uninstalled Areia Lite and downloaded it again based on the video link they sent me, but that didn't work. I sent another email to them this morning about it, so I hope this can get straightened out. When I emailed them the other week about this and the code, this is what they said:

"Thank you for your email. You don't need a new serial code for it as the product stays the same in your NA account. You just have to re-install the library via a re-download":

Try this first thing on the FAQ (how to update to Nucleus 1.2), it should work. I had the same issue with Chorus update- no matter what, it wouldn’t update properly and just re-installed the previous version. This fixed it (of course just apply the info to Areia Lite instead of Nucleus)

Hi folks - sorry if this is a dumb question (and I think the answer is "no" based on the 1.2 update video), but is it possible to play legato from the "core techniques" keyswitching patch? If not, why would they do it that way?

In Solo, for example, they support "performance-legato" as well as non-legato techniques in the same patch.

If they don't support this, which is what it seems, then how do folks use Areia in Dorico (or other notation programs) where it's most convenient to have all techniques for an instrument available on the same track?

They were already hitting the sample limit in the original Areia and had to split out patches to manage it. That was before they added 20 more gigs of legato to it.

Ah, that makes sense.

What’s the best trick for using in Dorico?
If it supported a keyswitch that was silent, I guess you could build a multi with both patches. I know Spitfire supports something like that. Anyone tried this?

Thanks to @gregjazz for solving this problem for me >10 years ago!

(The link is to a free multiscript that can handle keyswitchable MIDI channel changes in Kontakt)

Does anyone else has a pinch of hard panned RRs on 'Celli - Legato Performance' patch on Legato Fingered articulation (with Classic Mix selected)?
I know this is an old(ish) post/thread, but just noticed this problem myself - as you say, only happens with the fingered legatos in the Cellos performance legato patch, and only with the Classic mix - all the transitions leap over to what sounds like hard-right panning (as opposed to kind of centre-right for the sustains and the bow-change/portamento transitions) - very noticeable/jarring and makes this patch pretty much unuseable in the classic mix! Did you contact support about it? I messaged them yesterday so hopefully will get confirmation of whether they intend to fix this soon. As the Modern mix doesn't have this problem, presumably it's something "under the hood" in Kontakt on this particular patch that they can fix fairly easily.

One other thing I've noticed that could do with a tweak is that while all note start points sound perfectly "on the grid" if you set midi offset correctly, the one exception to this is portamento transitions - these you have to move around manually to varying amounts - not a huge problem, but as everything else is so perfectly timed, would be great if the portamento's were too!

Other than that, I'm very pleased with these strings - fantastic sound right out of the box, and (other than the few things listed above) incredibly easy to work with. Definitely not just for "trailer" stuff either, I've used these in all sorts of contexts, at all sorts of dynamics, and with all sorts of other sample libraries, with great results.
