Tympo by Teletone Audio

This looks fantastic! Can you import midi from Toontrack libraries? This seems right up my alley just would end up wanting more beat starting off point options.
Thanks!

It comes with 76 beats that each have 7 variations of for a total of 532 grooves. (I still haven’t got through all of the beats Jeremy made!) FYI

There IS a midi import feature however it’s a hidden feature because you have to be precious about how you use it which why we don’t advertise about it unless someone asks as it can be finicky.

Simply put you just drag a MIDI file on top of the Beatmaker. That said the caveat is that the Beatmaker lanes have to have the exact steps available as the midi you are importing. So if the EZD MIDI groove you are importing has 32nds make sure you set all lanes to 16 steps all with 2 subdivisions. AND I believe the MIDI will need to be quantized. If that makes sense?

This is an area where we will continue to monitor to see if it’s a heavily requested feature and if there are ways to improve what is there, but it isn’t a big focus area at the moment since we are pretty happy with the amount of material that’s there.

Good question and thanks!

Hi all… we made a video that covers the drums themselves. Jeremy gives a little backstory to the vintage drums and then auditions most of the kits and their drums. Thanks!

I love Tymo! More I play Tymo, more I find greatness.
Now I am wondering if I can record MIDI that I made in beatmaker. I mean when I play beats made in beatmaker with blue area in keyboard, I see movements of each oneshots in red area in keyboard. Hopefully I want to capture that MIDI movement in my DAW.

We wanted to create a video to illustrate one of the more important features/aspect of Tympo which is the “Feel” lane in the Beatmaker. Utilizing this feature in Tympo will greatly help bring a degree of groove or humanization to your beat.

Are the feel values copied over when you drag-and-drop the midi from tympo? I remember in one of your video's you mentioned something wasn't carried over but I can't seem to find it now.

I'm pretty sure he said it was feel that wasn't copied over.

You can export the MIDI data from the Beatmaker if you grab the TYMPO logo and drag it in to your DAW’s sequencer.

This feature isn’t totally showcased or clear because it doesn’t maintain what is drawn in to the Feel lane which is a big part of some of the grooves.

That said this is something we are working on to try and fix.

That is correct. The Feel lane data is not carried over when you export the MIDI.

This is something we are looking at remedying for a future update and is the reason it’s not entirely explicit on how to export MIDI from Tympo.

Thanks!

Ah, I thought I'd heard it doesn't, thanks for being upfront and awesome to hear you're trying to incorporate it. It's all about that feel after all!

Yeah for sure.

Just out of curiosity, what do you plan to do with the MIDI once out of Tympo?

I'd copy and paste the region and add / remove / edit the midi contained to structure my tracks (remove the hats for 8 bars for example). I often also use the midi to trigger different plugs - I might use the tympo patterns in XO for example.

Ok got it, so you couldn’t do that with the 8 regions provided in the Beatmaker? Or you need more than 8 regions?

So for example copy and paste Beat 1 to Beat 2 and remove hi-hats from Beat 2?

For my personal way of working, no. I realise tympo is more of a 'performance' library, and I will certainly use it the way you do yourself in the examples every now and then, but 90% of the time I'll be editing midi regions.

Ok got it, so then is there a reason to even start in the Beatmaker to need MIDI export?

We have zero preference how folks use Tympo (so don’t feel any pressure there), but always curious as to how people want to or do use it and gauge where time and money should be invested on developing things.

I just wanted to stop here a second to thank you and tell you how much I love you Teletone.
I'm not rich and I don't buy much libraries (and when I do, I kinda often regret it..:/), but not yours, you never disappoint.
I only own Scarbo (and now Tympo), your stuff is more than usual kontakt libraries, it always give me back creativity, ideas, and motivation. I can't wait to get some money to buy Verspetone and Ondine.

Yup. Ok, 2 probable scenarios (for me);

A) I'd create a beat in tympo like I would in any drum tool like XO or similar. Different UIs tend to inspire me in different ways. Once I'm done I'd then drag the midi out and arrange via midi regions in logic.

B) I'd drag tympos built in patterns into logic and again, arrange via the regions.

I may edit the midi regions or I might have edited the patterns within tympo itself, but as far as structuring the track I'll be using midi regions 90% of the time. I work similarly in ezdrummer, XO etc. As well as the benefit of being able to use my midi across libraries, I feel like I have more control in general and I'm not beholden to the libraries engine and any quirks it may have (timing etc).

Makes complete sense! It's on our list of things to look at for sure. Thank you for the totally reasonable explanation. Don't have a date for an update, but we hope to have time to look at it sooner than later. Thank you for your feedback.

Well you are welcome and we are appreciate those words. Glad they have been inspiring! And yes we think you will like Vespertone and Ondine just as well! :)

Thanks again for taking time out to say this.
