Project colossal - css template - EXPANSION OUT

Here's a new mockup created with the v2.0 expansion of the @ricoderks "Project Colossal Template".

It's a full recreation by ears of one of the main theme of "Atlantis, The Lost Empire", originaly composed by James Newton Howard.

Besides CSS, additional libraries used are Cinesamples Cineharps, Projectsam True Strike for the percs, Samplemodeling "The Trumpet" for layering purpose and Strezov Sampling Freyja and Wotan for the choirs.

I wish you good listening!

Lovely!!

Here's a new mockup made with PCT 2.0 of the track "The Might of Rome" from Ridley Scott's movie Gladiator (2000).

CSB is blended here with OT JXL Brass to simulate the huge brass section of the original OST (8 horns, 4 trumpets, 2 tenor trombones, 2 bass trombones, 2 euphoniums and 2 tubas!).

CSB alone had the tone but was a little weak and JXL Brass fits like a glove with PCT 2.0 with very little mixing effort required... :)

Does anyone have a logic pro companion session to go along with this new ve pro template? I will pay for it - pm me (need it urgently)
I would be interested about this too. Or if there are a good tutorial videos (made for dummies;) on how to connect VEpro with logic.

I am afraid that is untrue:
I wrote to customer support at waves and they confirmed it.

Thank you for contacting Waves Support.

Looking at your Waves account, I see that your licenses are activated on a computer named - Macintosh HD (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx).

Just want to verify, are you using Vienna Ensemble Pro 7? (not supported with Waves as stated on the Supported Hosts page)
Or Logic Pro X? (officially supported with Waves v14)

If you are using Logic, please refer to our How to Find Your Plugins in Logic Pro article and follow the third step, in order to perform a proper rescan.

Standing by for your reply.

WAVES StudioRack is an FX AU (or VST) just like any other and as such can be recognized by VEPro and inserted just like any other. I’m not sure why Waves told you that but StudioRack loads just fine on my VEPRO rig.

Hello!
Trying finally to setup the Expansion 2.0 (VEP 7 + Logic with Kontakt 7)

I am still learning to use VEP, so this question is very basic, but I don't know how to fix it.
I read something similar on another thread, but I can't find it right now.

When I try to load CSS on VEP the interface load wrong and doesn't work.

I am sure that I am doing something wrong.
Do you know if can I try something to fix it?

It looks like that if the VEP plugin in your DAW is not connected. As far as the connection to the instance is made it looks normal.

Oh! I just opened VEP without the DAW to setup. I thought that I needed to do that before starting to create the Colossal template on Logic! I told you, absolutely no idea of VEP. Thanks!

Hi! I've just bought your template and I am really, really satisfied with this quality, I think it worth more than the price.

However, I think there are some minor issues is cubase.
You divided every instruments into A/B by loading 2 channels in one instrument track, and connecting a midi channel to the instrument track.
Is there any reason that you made like this way? If I seperate these A/B into 2 instruments tracks, is there any difference with that?

I ask this because when I dont want to use the track I usually disable the track to save ram and loading time, but after disabling and enabling again sometimes the connection of midi track is lost - the connection appears as "missing..." so I have to find the connection and designate midi-output manually. I think this happens because when the track is disabled, the order of the instrument (1-piccolo, 2-flute...etc) changes(1-flute, 16-picc). Therefore there is no sound output at all or, sometimes I can hear emotional string sound from the Horn track.. lol

If you cannot understand this problem, I will provide some screenshot, or more specific information.
Thanks again about producing this high-quality template.
Hi man! Thanks for the kind words!

The reason I made A/B or just 2 of the same patches is that I use the first A patch mainly for melodic stuff/legato phrases. Patch B for chords and divisi. Its not in a separate instrument because that would double all Pro Q3 plugins. Also doubles the ram. You can use the same patch more than once in 1 kontakt instance without using more ram. Disabling tracks with midi does not work in cubase. It never connects properly. I do not recommend doing it. Especially since all B patches doesnt cost more ram!

Best,

Rico
Oh gosh, found the reason of my f***ing nightmare !
Finally, bought your template yesterday and trying to fix all Kontakt errors (missing sample and so on).
I also work with disable tracks. Experienced the same problem. Probably I will have to considerate the split patches version or create individual output manually into the KS version.

Hi Rico,
Can you activate my request to join the facebook group please, I followed the procedure (no urgency, don't worry, just to be sure if you received my request).

For various reasons, I’m not a fan of the KS version (mainly for reasons of delay - when you’re use the track delay it’s a bit difficult to change your workflow !)

As my current configuration being a bit limited in RAM (24Go, waiting better in few months), I have a lot of problems running the Split template and the impossibility of desactivate midi tracks does not help me of course.

I don’t know if this was done by someone in the FB group but my idea would be to modify the Split template to have only individual tracks per articulation (I mean one kontajt instance per articulation)

Of course, when the template opens, all my tracks will be deactivated, samples purged,
and I will activate tracks accroding to my needs.
It should also take less time to reactivate a single track rather than a multi.

This is the method I use on all my templates (much more simpler than yours) but it works like this and it corresponds to my workflow.

For this purpose, do you have a recommendation on how to "duplicate" these midi tracks to a track instrument (single Kontakt instance per articulation).
I don’t know that it is the smartest and most efficient way not to lose all the effects settings and other EQ, groups, etc etc

I suspect it will be a very tedious job but all ideas are welcome. :)

Thanks

Hey Hey!

I send you a messenger message immediately after the request. The names on the invoice and FB profile are totally different. I just wanted to make sure its correct. Could you please reply there and confirm the name the order has been placed with?

Then 24gb is not enough to run the template smootly, and the split patch template just requires so much more ram that i personally don't bother to use it. But with the purged/disabled method i guess that solves the ram problem completely. Cubase tends to mis-route disabled midi and autio tracks to the wrong busses when re-enabling, but I think the latest update fixed that. Not sure tho.

Then, the main reason i kept using MIDI tracks is simply to not ADD audio channels in the mixer per duplicate vst. So even the split patch has a nice overview in the mixer. I think the best approach for you would be to make busses to route all instrument tracks to with the splitted mics and move and remake the balance/pan and insert setup per instrument. E.G. the horns have 3 mics with routing and balance etc, remake that with 3 group tracks so if you would use 8 splitted VST's you can simply route those to those new groups to get the exact same sound. This way you can at least save some ram by not duplicating all plugins as well.

It's tedious indeed, but definately doable with the same result!

Best and see you on FB :)

Templates are always a difficult choice and I understand your reasoning.
It’s a very clever RAM and processor management. So you have a complete template ready to use where I optimize by activating or not the only tracks that interest me
These are 2 different approaches, there is not really to discuss. As many solutions as users:emoji_blush:

Under C12.0.70 build 464, the wrong busses problem when re-enabling a midi track seems to be still here.

Thank you for your advice about modification of busses for instrument track by articulation, I will look in this way :emoji_ok_hand:

Hi Rico,

Not sure to well understand your explanation. :emoji_head_bandage:
It should looks like this ?

If yes, I have no idea how is it possible to create the Mic group from Kontakt St.1, St.2, St.3,...
Something is probably wrong in my mind, sorry about it !

Hey hey! So if you would split out all like you suggested. And split the mics you need 3 new groups per instrument. So that second Horn group of yours should be Horns Decca, Horns Room and Horns Close. Then you can link all brass close groups to that vca to make those work. But these 3 horns groups will be routed to that Horns Stem group.

If we go more in detail here I'd like to suggest we continue by email via the support link on the site.

Best,

R
