What's new

Tempted by EzKeys2

Maybe somewhat OT, but does anyone know how to disable that horrible splash screen that pops up every time you focus one of toontrack's instruments in your DAW? It didn't used to be there, but at some point they added it to all of their instruments (sd3, ezbass, ezkeys), and it's a real downer to have to pause and look at it for several seconds before I get to see the plugin interface each time I want to open the interface to edit something. The interfaces used to display immediately.

I use Cubase and there is no splash screen on any of the 3 instruments.
Maybe it has something to do with your DAW

I think the organ is the best EZX so far. It’s sounds great and the Leslie is very good. I like that there’s the extra layer of drawbars so hopefully this will be in new expansions as well. The feel is excellent and smears sound good even on my weighted controller which isn’t always the case with other organs.

I like acoustic samples B5 organ and I think this new TT organ hangs right with it.

For musicians that don't play Hammond, the Session Organ EKX is a no-brainer with all its MIDI and part generation features. It will speed up their workflows just like EZBass, EZDrummer 3, and the NI Session Guitarist series speed up mine.

But if you play B3, I don't think the Session Organ EKX can stand toe to toe sonically with IK Multimedia B-3X and Universal Audio Waterfall.

If you’re used to playing a real B3 then yes session organ might not be for you. If you’re judging solely on tone and how well it fits in a track, I’m not so sure.

Hi, do you think Toontrack may have pushed forwards the quality of the sound from what IKM did in the past? Reason I ask is, I am always curious if advances in software push the envelope of the sound or just add new functionality but the sound itself sort of remains the same. EZK2 is obviously newer and more advanced product (and also I guess a very different product) than the IKM emulations.

Session organ is pretty different from most organ emulations.
Hard for me to say how it fares head to head with others because I only demo’d IK’s and Waterfall.

I own B5 and love it and those two didn’t seem far enough off from what I already have. Waterfall didn’t do much for me at all, I didn’t like the tone. BX3 I thought sounded great. Session Organ with the blend of samples and modeling seems like a good approach for organ especially. I haven’t used it in a track yet and will do a more thorough shootout with B5. If you’re a tweaker and want a lot of control over everything like mic angles on the Leslie than the pure modeled organs might be a better choice.

Session organ gives fewer parameter choices but the ones they picked are what I would have chosen anyway. Some of the design ideas are improvements, like the adjustable click volume. It still sounds like an organ but I really like the tone and feel, not to mention all the added band and groove features.

Actually, there are both Great and Swell manuals, together with pedals. Each of these has one set of drawbars dedicated to it (obviously, only two drawbars for the pedals). Also, the Grid Editor has three lanes for notes - one for each manual, and one for the pedalboard.

For a non-keyboard player (like me!), it's brilliant. It sounds great and the MIDI included together with the upcoming MIDI expansions are gold. Up to now, the only decent B3 MIDI I could find was a small amount from Smash Up The Studio, but that didn’t include volume swells, Leslie switching etc. Well done Toontrack!
