Cringe YouTuber Shock Face Thumbnail Hall of Fame

You know I'm not usually into name and shaming, but this is getting out of hand and I'm glad it's being pointed out here. One other thing, the ratio of noise is super high with influencer style youtube musicians, I mean really high. I almost at this point always regret watching videos even on hardware or plugins that I'm interested in, because 90% or more they don't actually go over all the features of the device and rarely if ever the caveats.
a solid example, not a single "Maschine VS MPC" comparison video mentions the lack of multiple time signatures in Maschine. Not one. I mean I get that most people using drum machines these days are making straight dance music, and everyone has it seems lost interest in a quarter note rest or any variation in meter at all, but this is IMO the absolute fundamental difference, Maschines song window has one time signature, period. It's as if none of them have spent more than a few hours with the devices they're "reviewing".

At this point it went from thinking "I'll watch a 10 minute video on the product to see if I like it", back to seeing about downloading the manual, and if I have to watching a video.

I have a groove3 subscription I'm considering letting go of for this reason. At some point it's like....why am I not just reading the manual??
But then they have other cool stuff on there as well......(other than software tutorials).

I go back and forth with that, sometimes an actual video tutorial is helpful, but I end up zoning out because things I don't know are packed between things I could figure out in my sleep.

The influencer issue has more to do with keeping the time to over ten minutes so youtube will monetize the video. This means some 3.5 minutes of actual content gets extended with them trying to be your virtual friend, and other filler.

I find a browser extension with keyboard shortcuts to speed up and slow down the video helps with speeding over irrelevant material.

one could always just watch less videos on youtube... ?

"Shopping channels (also known in British English as teleshopping) are a type of television program or specialty channel devoted to home shopping. Their formats typically feature live presentations and demonstrations of products, hosted by on-air presenters and other spokespeople who provide a sales pitch for the product. Viewers are also instructed on how they can order the product." (wikipedia)

sounds similar :)

When YouTube premium went live several years ago (ad-free tier) I was one of the first in line, in part because I used YouTube so much for everything from research (gear, software, music theory etc) to actual work (like clients sending me references). At the time the premium was I think $7/mo and for as much value as I got out of it, was a no-brainer to avoid ads.

Fast-forward to now, I still use it a lot, but I have to say it's mostly crap these days. I'm not sure if things have changed (the algorithms encouraging more and more filler and sensationalism over quality information), or if I've simply grown out of it and gotten what I've needed. But it feels like 90% of the time when I'm trying to find something about hardware, software, or music theory, there's mostly fluff and no substance. At this point I feel like a dog returning to its own vomit.

That said, as with most services they are jacking up prices this month. Now it'll be something like $14/mo just to watch crappy videos without ads. Thinking now to save money and perhaps I'll feel even less motivated to waste my time on there if I have to watch crappy ads on top of it.

Yeah I should probably cancel mine too... it was great for learning new software, but honestly some of them are exceptionally long with slow-talking filler. Like 8+ hour long courses where the actual useful information could be distilled down to around 20 minutes. I totally understand the thorough walkthrough especially for absolute beginners, but some of it's painfully slow, and thinking when I have a question I could just open a manual and hit CMD+F...

Kevin has recently scaled down the "WOW" factor thumbnails, but there used to be some ridiculous ones.

The actual videos of him reviewing libraries have always been some of the best imo, if you haven't seen his reviews check them out.

Well, shit, the second one.

I'm not sure which one of us I hate more because of it.
Well, because I have been following this thread I went with the boring first one, but I should probably go change that...

EDIT: I changed to the shock face, so feel free to ridicule me now....will be interesting to see if it has any effect on views. And to be clear, I don't like doing the shock face, I think it's silly, but Youtube is cutthroat and I don't yet know enough about it to stray too far from what is proven to work.
