Lost Macros and Toolbar in Studio One 5

Today I opened up my template to find all my custom toolbars were gone and replaced with the default ones. I have tried opening old projects and all the toolbars and macros are gone from there too. I spent so long making these and it is essential to my workflow. With a deadline this week I can feel a panic on the horizon. Does anyone know how to get these back or what has happened?

I have many versions of my template saved and all of them are like this now. I thought all of this was saved with a template

Trying to visualize: so the macros and toolbars have completely disappeared from S1 or just from the projects?

oof. watching this with interest as I'm new to Studio One as well and have spent some time on Macros. Are your custom macros still in the Macros folder in your Studio One docs folder? ie where it saves presets / sound sets / IO Configurations etc? I guess S1 saves the actual tool bars as part of the song or in some other preference. If the macros still exist, it def seems odd to me that the tool bars would be gone in older saved songs.

Check your settings to see if maybe your files location settings were changed. In the past sometimes this was reset to a default location and studio one couldn’t find the macros and files and created a new location for me.

If you search your system for the macro files and macropage files do they show up? I believe studio one looks for a toolbar.xml (I’ll have to double-check the name) for your macro bar settings. If this was overwritten with a new default file, check and see if maybe you have an older version in a backup.

Best practice moving foward, after you set up your macro, export the macropages and back them up. That way you can always just import them again if need be.

Sorry to hear that.

The macro toolbar with all pages / groups / buttons is stored in "Studio One/Macros/commandbar-v3.xml" ("Studio One" is your user folder also containing the "Songs" folder). Check if it contains your macro toolbar. If not, look into commandbar-v3.xml.bak.

Definitely a good idea although I've never seen toolbar content disappear so far.

That’s the one!

Yeah it’s only happened occasionally because my content is stored in an external drive. Booting up studio one when the drive can’t be found has led to it recreating a default folder on my main drivez

I found the file. It says the file is broken and cannot be opened. Went back to back up versions and it seems to be the case with them too.

I will certainly be saving and exporting in the future.

Fortunately my main Toolbar was based off one that Lukas made available, so I at least have a solid base to start from rather than totally starting over.

If it's not totally corrupted, it could probably be repaired. If you want, send it to me via PM and I'll see what I can do.

When I look at the XML file I don't see any of my macros. I think it has now overwritten it with the default.

Okay, so I'm in a similar boat. I'm working between 2 PCs. I transferred settings from my Home PC (with all my customizations, including many of Lukas' cool toolbars) to my work PC. Then I made some updates there, and transferred my full settings folder back to my Home PC.

It appears that my Macro Toolbars were a casualty. Somehow, the 2nd transfer replaced my Macros Toolbar with the default setup (and without all my additions).

I believe I made the transfer on 3/22, which is the date of the commandbarv3.xml file.
Is there any way to recover the prior file?

(I have the backup file dated 3/10, which would represent partial progress. I did a ton of customizations between those dates.)

For future knowledge: What Settings file is responsible for overwriting the Macro Toolbar? (I want to know how to avoid this in the future. But also how to intentionally update it.)

Is there a best practice approach for working with multiple computers related to the Macro toolbar?

Craig

Good news. I remember before Overwriting the Settings Folder, I saved my existing as "Settings_old" in case of a problem.
I'd rather pull from exactly the specific setting that needs to be replaced, rather than the entire folder of files and subfolders.
Does anyone know which one affects Macros?

And they're back!
Okay, I replaced the current settings with my prior "Settings_old" and my Macro Toolbars are BACK!

I'd still love to know: In what settings file or folder does this info reside?

(Would LOVE to see Presonus give us a tidy dialogue box with a limited number of choices of what to Export and Import. Samplitude has had such a feature for 20+ years, making this kind of thing very easy and user-confidence high. I have created a Feature Request for "Transfer Settings". Maybe some of you could up-vote it.

Hey Lukas, I downloaded your scoring tools and navigation essentials macro toolbars for Studio one 6 but now I can't delete them, move them, or edit them. Help! I would like to delete it.

Toolbars that are embedded in Studio One extensions (such as Scoring Tools and Navigation Essentials) are read-only and can't be edited or deleted. This is a limitation of Studio One (but it makes sense because it allows the toolbars to be updated automatically when a new update of an extension is installed).

To edit one of these toolbars, the workaround would be to export it, import it again and edit the new one.

It would indeed be useful to be able to hide individual toolbars in the future. But that would be a feature request for Studio One.

Thanks for the reply! Yea hiding it would be optimal. I recreated some of the things you had on yours and made my own, so it’s just the OCD in me that wants to hide yours lol Maybe in version 7

I've suddenly stopped being able to use the "Move to folder" macro in scoring tools. (S1 6 Pro). I've tried a complete setting purge and rebuild but it didn't bring it back. Does anyone know what to do? @Lukas are you around? I miss that feature in my large projects!! :)
