It's more than that. I heard in a track many years ago that used TS's marimba, and I knew that I wanted it (it has this tight sound that other marimbas don't have). I was shocked when I was listening to demos & walkthroughs, and heard that exact same marimba I've wanted for so many years! If I happened to watch that walkthrough a week from now, I would be sorely disappointed. The fact that it will soon be gone for eternity is very bizarre, and a needless process for any company. Not to mention, this library was the most-used perc library by a musician I looked up to.
And of course, there's the obligatory 'I don't condone piracy, but" statement. Even if I had every marimba VST known to man, the fact that ProjectSam is actively preventing me from giving them money for this sound library that I'm intrigued by is also baffling to me (just an example, of course, but I know people who have had similar experiences). At least make it free if you're not making money on it! Is piracy really the morally wrong action if I can't buy the product anywhere?
I think it says something when we're viewing these little collections of samples in the same light as the media we compose for. Preservation is a topic that I think needs to be more commonplace outside of just film and video games.
