Tips to purchasing VIs safely?

my computer or network that is compromised
Network would be fine either way as the data would be encrypted on your system by the browser. Your computer or browser might be compromised, or you might be a victim of a phishing scam if you've received any emails or texts that have lead you to unknowingly enter your details into a fake website.

That makes sense, maybe I should contact other vendors I bought from recently as well? I just really hope it's not my computer or network that is compromised, cause then I am pretty screwed.
It makes sense to ensure that you practice good security with anything that interacts with the internet - a good Anti-Virus, use complex and unique passwords, be aware of phishing scams etc. I also have some dark web monitoring services, that inform me when my details are showing, and will also give you some indication of where the details were compromised.
In the past, I've just reported the fraudulent activity to the card provider/bank. As part of the process they will freeze the card and reissue a new card, as well as investigate the fraudulent activity. I've never felt the need to reach out to vendors to inform them myself.

I don't think I ever fall for phishing, so far I have received the product I bought every time I entered my card info online but I might have slipped when turning off the GAS. 😂

My experience taught me that as long as I don't launch random exe files or enter information on sketchy sites then I am fine, I guess time changed and I should get some anti-virus/security suite.

Generally if not always I use PayPal,I don’t want my credit card info exposed on the internet.
You needn't be that concerned. The CC info is not your info; it's the bank's info. We all say, my CC#, but actually, it belongs to the bank. And you are not responsible for any fraud. So, if someone gets hold of your info, and uses your CC to buy something, it's nothing to be concerned with.

For me changing cards was a pain in the ass,I’d rather not have to deal with. Ultimately I didn’t lose any money but I prefer not having to worry about any of this.

This might be related, looks like the breach was exposed within the last 24 hours. Supposedly the largest breach on record... People might want to reset their passwords if they have accounts at any of the sites listed, most notably:

LinkedIn, Dropbox, Twitter & Adobe.

EDIT: This looks to be the source everyone's citing... More info here...

Everyone thinks they are doing enough to protect themselves until they find out they didn't. If this is the only protection you have while using a PC, it definitely is not enough!

dlsite.com

I don't recognize this URL and it seems to be blocked in my country (Germany), which I would consider a red flag. What is that site?

It's a Japanese site that sells weird stuff, I bought some SynthesizerV voice libraries from there, it's mentioned a few times in this forum as well.

I get a lot of phishing emails. They are getting more sophisticated. I just got one that told me there is a problem with my cpanel account and asked me to login. The form looks legit, but the URL is off and also I know I don't have a cpanel account anyway.

A few of my purchases were indeed made by using links in an e-mail, but I did receive the thing... However, I heard from a friend that some phishing sites would complete your orders on the actual site to lower your guard, crazy stuff.

My questions are, if you always pay with credit card, how often do you face situations like this? How do you keep it safe, like using PayPal?
I always pay by credit card. If there's an authorized charge, I tell my credit card company and they refund it and send me a new card (with a new number). All I've lost is a little time. After shopping online for a couple decades now, it has happened to me exactly once.

Always check the URL in the browser and if in doubt go directly through the developer's website and skip the email link.
I learned these long ago but when it comes to VI DEALS I forget everything. :emoji_flushed:

My issuer is rebutting the transaction for me and sending me a new card. I just never thought I would take this lesson so quickly.

have you used your card for anything other than VI purchases?
It is also linked to some e-payment applications, 1 hardware purchase from Thomann, SSDs from Amazon, and 1 music book purchase. I just found that the website I bought the books from was red-flagged for frequent data breaches 2 years ago, but my purchase was in August.
