Logic Manually de-allocating RAM command reversed?

Hi,

I noticed that the key command to deactive and de-allocate RAM for a plugin (option+clicking the On/Off button) does not change the RAM usage in the Activity Monitor. However, just clicking the off button (without holding option) actually releases RAM.

There also seems to be some strange stuff going on if deactivating with option and activating it again, where the RAM goes up even more (as if Logic is allocating the same memory twice or something).

Has anyone else noticed somehing similar? For now I will just click the On/Off button without the option key, but it seems that's not the intended command for this.

I'm on Logic 10.8.1 (running Rosetta).

Seems like the Logic team are making a steady effort to iron out quirks and inconsistencies, so it’s really worth keeping an eye on the release notes; especially if using it in advanced mode (with “complete features” enabled.)

Only out of curiosity, why do you run in Rosetta? Is it just inertia from the early days when the native Logic/Rosetta plugins combo still had quirks? (I’m not knocking inertia, btw, if it works and performs :) )

Seems like it! I'll definitely try to be more careful of reading them if this kind of thing happens again.

You guessed correctly! I had some plugins that didn't support native. But nowadays, I don't even keep track on what plugins have been updated to support it... Maybe I should test the waters...

Plugins don't have to run in the same mode as Logic anyway (unfortunately, a lot of people - including plugin developers - were mistaken on this point back when the M1 came out.) In fact, by now, I expect you're probably already running a mixture of native and Rosetta plugins without realising.
