Cubase: What's the best way to set up key commands to only show tracks that have specific names?

For example, if I want to only see all Strings tracks in a project. I know that I would need a common word that identifies them, but the thing I can't figure out and can't seem to find a video for (I'm probably missing the obvious, but I can't seem to find one) is how to set up a Logical Preset or Macro to do this.

A link to a good video would be great, or an explanation here if it's not too complicated.

Thanks!

Here's what I've been using for a while now @Headlands

The "Event is empty" bit is optional. If you have it then it will only toggle the visibility of tracks that have zero events (and continue to always show those tracks WITH events). You can also play with the Action. Toggle is one possibility, but you can make separate PLE presets that can Enable or Disable the "Hide Track" operation.

Just to add;

Track = all track types (audio, instrument, MIDI, marker, tempo etc...) but excludes Folders

Conditions (for name filter)

Equal
= Will only search for EXACTLY what has been input into Paramater 1 which includes upper and lower casing.

For example:

If you want to search for "TrumPet" (using the Equal condition) only tracks with the exact upper and lower casing matching "TrumPet" will be selected. It doesn't matter if the word is "Trumpet" or "TrumpET" - these alternatives will be ignored.

Contains = it will ignore the upper and lower casing and just find any track named "trumpet"

Perfect, thank you.

Metagrid.
Setup folders of tracks, any which way you want and trigger and unfold those. Can setup combos too. I have folders like Groups, FX, Stems etc. as well. Setup buttons like "Show only Activated Tracks" if using a large Disabled Template. The remote control is endless...

I do use Metagrid, thought I would need to use a KC to do this. Thanks for the info!

how to set up a Logical Preset or Macro to do this.
It's painful, but it can be done. This video is a bit old now but this is still the setup I use with Cubase 12. This uses Lemur but you can assign the macros to key commands.

Yep using the Project Logical Editor will do it.

I have two versions on my touch screen

(1) Toggle certain folders when I want to view them in addition to other things that are showing. This is similar to what post #2 describes. This is what I use for Cubase VST instruments, STEM prints, etc. For example, I might choose "show tracks with data", and then toggle the view of the VST Rack instruments if I need to check a VEpro audio return.

(2) Show only certain folders. In this case you have to set up your macro in steps where you (a) hide everything first, and (b) toggle hide only for the folder / tracks , whatever, you want to see. This is what I use for my Strings, Brass, etc. So when I press the "Strings", it first hides all tracks, then shows only the folder labeled "Strings".

Attached is a Metagrid scene of PLEs for:

1. rows 1-3 are for assigning colors to track types. For example, if the track name is "snare.drm" (.drm means drum so all tracks labeled .drm get orange) The 3rd row is the very same except it is more Cubase specific. For example .grp means Cubase groups, but in my template I also have a group channel for parallel groups so even though it's a Cubase group channel it is coded .par meaning a parallel group channel. Once you have an extension set up for every track, then keeping colors correct to the correct tracks is relatively easy.

2. rows 5 and 6 show actual names in tracks. Example toggle "guitars" will show only tracks with the name "guitar." I don't use this type of search very much, because for myself once I have assigned an extension like .gtr in the Cubase track list, pressing the .gtr in the show category will achieve the same.

3. rows 7 and 8 are the show tracks I use very often. I press show.syn and only tracks that have .syn in the name will show up. All other tracks do not. To go back, I press the "undo visibility change" in the lower right.

All of this is achieved with PLEs and works fine for myself. Others may have to adjust to customize. And it's a good example of how Metagrid streamlines this stuff over basic key commands.

Looks great, but could do with a clean!

I have it set-up like this:

ex. Add a [w] to all WW tracknames, I have created a KM macro for that.
So I have thought a lot about the set-up and the first situation is where I need to show ALL my WW tracks, to find an isntrument from that group.

Notice the unfold tracks that follows the action.
I use Metagrid and the button that starts this PLE is a Latching Switch, that holds 2 commands. Each of them runs a Metagrid Scene, that in fact is a PLE preset. The show WW is scene 1. The hide WW is scene 51,

and it's a little bit more complicated. The aim is to hide all WW tracks, that are disabled AND not selected. This means that I can select those WW tracks, that I maybe want to use/enable.
