So I stumbled upon this which I haven’t seen anyone mention before. it is a Open Source (the compiled version costs $15) VST host that works in the DAW and allows the following types of splitting:
Looks very interesting. Reaper recently added something similar recently so not sure it is something I will use.

- Series - single chain of plugins in series
- Parallel - any number of chains of plugins in parallel
- Multiband - up to six chains of plugins in parallel, each processing a different frequency range
- Left/Right - two chains of plugins, one processing the left channel and one processing the right
- Mid/Side - two chains of plugins, one processing the mid channel and one processing the side
