Strange Background Sound with Opus String Runs

I've listened several times and I have to say I don't really hear what you are describing. Unless you mean a sort of emphasis on the G in the E-F-G run? If so, that sounds natural enough to me, like what might happen if the players inadvertently put a bit of an accent there due to a string change. If that's not what you mean then maybe you could identify the times when you are hearing it in the snippet?

Now it could be that my aging ears simply aren't picking up the frequency of the chink sound..

Thanks for your reply. It's a very regular sound probably about once every second or two seconds. Starts almost at the beginning of the track and goes all the way through. Not sure if you are listening with headphones but you might need them, as it's a very high frequency sound.

Ok I think I hear it on phones alright. What I'm hearing is more than once a second though, like a slight 'click' as the phrase plays. Though that still may not be what you mean as I think my upper frequencies might be a bit shot - couldn't hear the cicadas my partner and daughter did while on hols a few years ago!

Either way I think you might be dealing with the limitations of the samples here to play such a fast phrase fluidly and without any artefacts. Have you tried notching it out? That might be your best bet.

Also, have you tried it with the equivalent Violins 1 or 2 patch to see if it happens with them?

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Maybe someone else can hear it more clearly and might be able to identify another cause.

Thanks again for having another listen. I've used a different patch from musio I can't hear it at all. Not sure what you mean by notching it out though?

I'm sure you know the trick of sweeping the upper band with a fairly large increase to identify the problem frequency and then turn it down by a few decibels, or more if it really bothers you. The narrow Q allows you to have a precise 'notch' so that you minimise the reduction of neighbouring frequencies.

I'm afraid I don't, I'm fairly rubbish with that technical side of things. But I'll give it a go, thanks for the tip.

Yes do. You want to slowly scan the frequencies with a fairly high gain until the annoying sound really pops out, then reduce the gain until you can’t hear it. Just don’t overdo it.

Let us know if it helps.

Funny, i just worked yesterday with Hollywood Strings and the Legato Slur Patches of the violins and noticed the same. There's something odd going on with some of the high intervalls of the violins. There's some very strange high scratching, like a piano note or so..

Can’t hear it either. I must be officially old now.
Me too :emoji_joy:

But I remember, that I once noticed sample noise in NI Africa, that was gone, when I raised the sample rate from 48 to 96 kHZ. But it was only hearable, when using headphones with a superb resolution. On speakers and standard headphones it wasn't hearable.

Might be worth checking, if the described phenomenon is comparable.

Thank you, I was beginning to think I was suffering from auditory hallucinations. Yes, they're a real thing - I used to treat people with them. Relieved to think they didn't 'rub off on me'. :)
