Why is VI-Control sending me email notifications?

When you click to watch a thread you can set a preference for just that thread. Could that be the reason?

I watch threads sometimes and have never had an issue over many years. I'd imagine it's that you left ticked the 1st option (as pointed out by d.healey). You can unwatch any thread you want to stop receiving notifications from, then you should be able to re-watch it with email notifications disabled.

I think it’s that when you set the global option, it doesn’t automatically unsubscribe you to emails for threads you’re all ready watching.

I think ism is right. A couple weeks after I joined VI-Control, I opted out of all emails, but every once in a great while, I'll receive an email notification from an old thread I participated in during those first two weeks.

Is there a way to see which threads it's sending emails to? Wish the global option would override the individual thread option, which often checks itself when I post something.

Hi, this is actually working as designed. Additionally, @EgM is correct, you could do it locally via the Watched threads, but there is a way to do it globally too, since threads become automatically "Watched" if you reply something on these. You can avoid this by doing this.
