I had to compose for the EA Puzzle Game Unravel an older game using 1st and 2nd Violins also Viola as a small orchestral ensemble but found it hard enough using Sibelius. Anyone like to offer examples of a game they consider good to play, listen to, or possibly compose music to from the above categories.

Just wanted to say, we've been on and off playing that game with my son, and the soundtrack is really good - fits the game's mood and the setting very well.

Nier: Automata and Ori (both of them, I like the first better) listed above are really good games and have fantastic music in them. I'd like to add my favorite soundtrack (and game) from the current generation, and that's Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Anyone else any thoughts or examples also thanks doctoremmet for the Keiichi Okabe composer profile.

For the sound experience, I would say Horror category and Alien Isolation in particular, the sound design in this game is insanely good and well executed. There's also some shooter games such as Battlefield 1 that are pretty hard to beat for the sound design and the mix quality, I never heard another shooter game with this kind of sound quality either, they really put a lot of efforts in this one.

Horror (Silent Hill, Resident Evil), Visual Novel (Amagami SS, Little Busters, VA-11 Hall-A, Yu-No) and jRPG (Grandia, Ys).

Also, whatever genre Mick Gordon makes or Cyberpunk's OST belongs to.

Lots of great picks in here!

I've always loved Sakimoto's blend of militarism and JRPG melodramms that's present in every Valkyria Chronicles release:

For more contemperary sounding game stuff I think Daren Korb of Supergiant games is a musical monster:
