Concerto for Orchestra- intro w/ Dorico / comparing NPPE to NP sounds

Admittedly this is more violent and atonal/dissonant than my usual fare but I wanted to let loose and see how NP does with quick passages. This is just the NP sounds, not NPPE btw.

I guess it sort of harkens back to Don Davis' The Matrix a bit but I'm culling more from mid 20th century composers in reality. Um, enjoy? lol. #batshitcrazy

I like it. Are you planning on trying it with various NPPE supported libraries? I bet VSL would do a good job with this.

Sentinels! Shut down all power. Charge the EMP!!

Very nice! It gives me the urge to restart work on several orchestral scores still unfinished in my projects folder, such as Hitchcock's Carousel and others. :) Well done! Now I wonder about NPPE...

oh you folks! thanks for the kind feedback. I will try it using my normal BBCSO/Synchron template a little later. I dunno if NPPE can get this loud and nasty. We will see... or hear.

I will add that MuseScore can NOT handle quick string passages like this. I tried. It failed. LOL.

Here is BBCSO Core Strings + Synchron Winds & Brass. Brass sound better than NP... Strings... nope. Don't get that heavy downbow. too tame

I also tried Synchron Duality Strings instead of BBCSO. also nope. Way to polite and not aggressive enough. Sigh.

Very interesting. I know this is veering off topic comparing playback options but I'm a little surprised BBC didn't sound better tbh. The actual sound (sonic quality) of the samples sounds better but the interpretation certainly wasn't. I haven't install the Iconica orchestra but am surprised how good that sounds as well. Thanks for the comparison.

BBCSO Core Strings normally sound great. My Shadow concert work has them and I am very happy with their sound. But for this kind of hyper aggressive playing it just doesn't cut it. I wanna try SSO but I need to load the strings back on my computer. I have a feeling they might sound great.

I thought Duality Strings would do better being a little smaller and more detailed. Nope.

I've tried Duality Strings in NotePerformer for the first time the other day and for some reason they sound a lot weaker and thinner than Duality Strings not going through NotePerformer.

I would say Duality Strings can do a fantastic job of this passage. Duality Strings in NotePerformer cannot.

It is one of the downsides of having a "black box" drive your orchestra, when that black box doesn't do things right, you don't have any control to change what it does and are at its mercy.

Have you used Duality expression maps in Dorico w/o NP?

Definitely try SSO when you have time. I'd love to hear what this sounds like with it. The bite on the strings for accented staccato/staccatissimo at least sounded really good when I tried it in NPPE.

I’m more interested at the heavy downbow Marcato measures since I haven’t heard much NPPE that matches the NP sound playback. But yeah I will give it a try when I get around to loading SSO back on my computer

This “piece” was really a test to see how Dorico handled fast passages compared to MuseScore. I maybe spent 10 minutes on it… but I’m surprised and happy that it’s been received as well as it has so I guess I have to see it through and develop it into a real piece. lol!

I’ve noticed some libraries have the option to add Marccato overlays. I don’t know if DS offers that
