Berlin Woodwinds Legacy vs Revive - Hear the Difference!

The difference seems to be mic positions. That's why I was saying at the end of my post that Revive is more flexible than Legacy with regard to mics. Basically Legacy only has two mics, "close" and "far". They're an unknown blend of the multiple mic positions we get with Revive. Legacy loads with a close clear sound, but Revive loads with (if memory serves) just a tree mic which is quite wet. You can see in my screenshot how much i reduced the tree mic volume to get that close sound. You're barely hearing the tree at all in my examples, but I'd bet that you're hearing mostly tree in the video of the original post.
I can confirm what Casiquire is saying. I was comparing constantly between legacy, revive kontakt and the new sine version. By default, sine loads with just tree. And it's super, super wet. So much that the legato transitions get kind of partially lost.

I liked the clarity Casiquire samples showed. Close, but not like legacy.

That makes perfect sense, thanks for this explanation. I think that maybe I've been judging it too harshly because of the defaults.

That's why I decided to make those examples. It's almost common knowledge in these forums that Revive is more wet and inferior in quality, but my experience is so different that it seemed worth pushing back against that impression

English Horn 1 Revive. Notice how much better those crossfades are! Also I like the tone of Revive MUCH more, and it sounds like it has a wider dynamic range

So overall they both sound great, but Revive is much more flexible because it can do the upfront soloist sound *and* the pushed back ensemble sound *and* there are more instruments and clearly the extra mics add a ton of flexibility. Plus I've also learned to love SINE more than Capsule.

And for anyone interested:

Just stumbled upon this, @Casiquire - thank you so much for sharing these mic settings! It really does wonders for the sound of BWW Revive to adjust the mics like this.

Question for those with BWW (main) in SINE:

Since Clarinet 2 and both Bassoons 1 & 2 were recorded years before the rest (during the Legacy sessions), do the ORTF, Tree, AB, Surr mics match those mics from the other instruments?

The reason I ask is because, the original Legacy mics that were released sounded significantly closer than the mics from Revive.

(I think one of the flutes is from Legacy as well, possibly Flute 1.)

I only own Legacy, but am considering upgrading to Revive at the moment. The image I embedded is a screenshot from the BWW walkthrough video.
