You can indeed. Go into the preferences where there is a tab that contains the search paths for the UFS folders. There are two little checkboxes by each one that determine whether UVIS/Falcon will display them in the library view or just point to the folders that contain them (I split mine - I don’t have the Vintage Vault libraries in the main view, for example).
That's great. I didn't know that!

The options are presented in a slightly gnomic way. I couldn't remember them off the top of my head but having checked they're: indexed, recursive and automount.

Automount is the one to check to put it in the library view. Recursive makes it look in subfolders, if you use them to sort the UFS bundles (but if you're storing presets in subfolders you probably don't want to check this as it will increase the startup time).

The other one is indexed, which is used for the search function. UVIW doesn't reindex at startup, but only when you search so keeping this checked for everything isn't a big deal.

I’ve also been eyeing this library for a while to complement some of the world libraries I have. That demo by A.K. Dern is indeed very good, but pretty much all the official demos on the product page are…well, not that great. What gives? Anyone have some other good examples done with this library?

They have the bells broken out in their own groups (when I mentioned percussion instruments I was actually talking about bells). The bell selection is very, very good! And they sound great! The other percussion instruments are also wonderful!

I only just started to test the acoustic guitars before sleep took over but while I know they’re not as well done as say ‘picked acoustic’ from NI the diversity of what is there is extremely inspiring and if you double them (and add some nice reverb and delay) and of course play them convincingly, I think you can get what you want out of them. I did start a song with one because I thought it sounded so lovely!

There’s so much I’ve yet to discover too which is pretty exciting!

So for the record. The sale is still going. And I have to add the accordion selections are pretty amazing here. Lots of options and they are incredibly fun to play, let alone very authentic sounding.

I like AKD's demo, but the official demos on the site all sound really...cheap. Like library tracks from 20 years ago. Maybe it is a mixing thing by one of the frequent demo contributors, but I'm hearing it across the demo tracks too. I love world sounds and was hoping for a "modern" RA - but those RA demos still sound better to me (not to mention the demos of the more region-specific libraries like OT's Andea or Phoenix Orchestra or Strezov's Jade or Celtic Era).

No way around it. Some of the sounds are not great. But there are quite a few gems. You get a lot and it's a bit of a grab-bag mentality. And it's my understanding the OG sounds ARE pretty old and honestly some of them are simply not that deeply sampled. But the stuff that IS good is VERY usable. For $179.00 it's a bargain for what is good here.

The thing about World Suite is that it's very much a kit of parts. It's got a pile of samples but very little in the way of scripting or organisation that makes it easy to do idiomatic lines. This is particularly noticeable for instruments like bagpipes where you really need to work on it in MIDI to get decent results, whereas something dedicated like the Efimov uillean pipes, the scripting makes it easy to play.

Ra is in some ways easier to play as are parts of Best Service's World collection. The samples themselves in World Suite are broadly pretty good – they just need some love and attention to work. And I think that is reflected in the demos.

It is still $149 at the mo - if interested just a pain to download thru UVI and iLok etc - can this be set up in Kontakt at all ? .. anyone done that

It can’t, unless you fancy resampling the entire thing, and having your son play unscripted samples. Also, why? To avoid iLok? At that point why even bother.

UVI Workstation is in no way comparable to Engine. It is literally lightyears ahead in terms of quality. ;)
There are some odd things about setting up Workstation so it knows where to find your libraries. And some of the back pages/tabs remain a bit of a mystery (they aren’t exactly intuitive coming from Kontakt). But overall I quite like it.

I have to say, as a Falcon user, I rarely even open Workstation. It may not be to everyone’s taste or up-to-spec. But a comparison to Engine is like the ultimate insult hehe. ;)

By the way, @Delboy - I think I received a $25 “merci” voucher over at UVI for downloading their free Venus Theory Noctua library. Maybe that promotion is also still running, it may knock off an extra 25?

Falcon is like the equivalent of full Kontakt, right?

Engine is just bad. Almost charmingly bad at this point except that it makes everything 100x more difficult than it needs to be. UVI Workstation is by contrast quite good, just not intuitive coming from Kontakt. But I’ve found it easy enough to use the instruments that are designed for it. I just see all this other functionality that might or might not be useful, but I haven’t been able to figure out what to do with it.

At sine point I’ll likely invest in Falcon itself since it seems to have functionality beyond full Kontakt (though full Kontakt has been adding to its underlying synth capabilities too).

Correct, if you want to make the “Player” / “Full Engine” comparison. In terms of synthesis capabilities and UI, I prefer Falcon over Kontakt by quite a large margin. It is a capable sampler, but I weirdly hardly ever use Falcon with samples. Anyway - I digress. I wholeheartedly recommend the Falcon platform. If only for the access it gives to the most excellent Simon Stockhausen soundsets.
