What's new

Out Now: Areia - Cinematic Ensemble Strings

I'm trying to do the update per instructions in AI's email. When I go to Areia in Native Access to initiate the reinstall, it's showing Areia as 1.1, not 1.2. Not sure if this simply shows the version that was previously installed or not. Do I just go ahead and reinstall and it'll end up being 1.2 or do we need to wait for it to show in Native Access? Thanks.

Move the original Areia to another drive or desktop(or simply delete it if you are going to only use the new version) , then open Kontakt to make sure it giving you get the missing library error for Areia. Go into Native Access and click the refresh button on top and Areia should now show needs repair. Click the 3 dots next to repair and select reinstall.

Transitions sound a bit louder than the sustains, but that should be easily fixed if the library is unlocked. Overall they sound good to my ears. @Trash Panda do you hear a lot of vibrato in the transitions themselves when playing non vib?

Glad it was a free upgrade I still can't use the product and yes I own Areia got it the day it was first released

In my workflow I use notation software I need the Legatos to be grouped with the other articulations just as if it were a real orchestra

This is a pretty nice improvement considering having both rebowings and fingered legato is very useful. I am however noticing an issue so far with the basses, when dynamics are around 50% the legato repetitions of the same note do not play when triggered.

Edit: No polyphonic legato in the performance patches?

Very cool update, thank you for this! It was definitely missing in the original lib.

But puh liz ... developers should really stop with absurdities and nonsense like "Legato Fingered" "Legato Rebowed" "Legato Slurred" "Legato portamento" "Legato feet" "Legato Staccato" "Legato thoooong"

Just call these articulations Legato, Rebows, Portamento and be done with it.

Doesn't seem to be an issue to my ears, but here's the same example with no vibrato to judge for yourself. :)

Overall, I'm quite enjoying this update. I didn't have a huge problem with the original legato, but it was just wonky enough to make me have to work harder to sequence flowing lines than I'd have liked to. The rest of the original library lineup was and still is excellent. I really love the embarrassment of riches in short articulations.

A few notes for @audioimperia if there is a chance of further tweaks/enhancements in a future patch/update:
  • Performance legato patches do not have the usual Sordino, Niente, or 2nd violin buttons (and still no 2nd violin button on SOLO either, Jan! ❤️ )
  • A volume slider for the short overlays and legato transitions on the performance legato patches would be a huge benefit. As is, the shorts overlays are jarringly loud and the legato transitions are just a smidge louder than what feels perfect to my ears. Being able to dial that in to preference would be amazing.
  • Seems a few articulations were left out of the Core Techniques patch. Are the Sul Pont versions of Sustain and Tremolo still there? They seem to be missing.
  • At some point down the line, could we potentially have the option of a legato transition for all longs/ornaments, portato and marcatos? That would make this library competitively flexible with ones that cost double what this one does at full price.

Speaking of what is and isn't in the library, @audioimperia I think the articulations overview graphic for the library on the website is missing quite a few articulations: sustained Sul Tasto, Portato, Col Legno and Bartok Pizz.

Also, it says that Sul Pont Tremolo is included, although in my current 1.2 copy it's not there, I don't remember ever seeing it in 1.1, and it's not listed in the old overview graphic featured in the reviews (I checked). I don't think the library has or has had Sul Pont content - I'd love some if it was ever added in the future though.

As for the new legato patches, they feel like an improvement, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around using them effectively.

I had never owned it before and got it for $169 with cross grade, I'd always been interested in it. (this is JUST areia)
Thank you mate, interesting demo - while I can hear the (same) vibrato rate of all instruments I would also be interested in a comparison with Duality as I own it as well. 🙏

We can go to the sample talk Areia thread and I’ll post it there!

Of course, since it's the official AI thread, sorry for that.
I wanna tweak it more too, I am very sick atm and my ears are stuffed from sinus pressure and it’s hard to properly hear anything. Listening back to that, I was using a mix of mic positions instead of classic or modern, and maybe too much close mic. I’m gonna tweak it and reupload later to give a better idea of the library sound

Does Audio Imperia ever respond to support questions sent by email? They never did to mine: in 2021, 2022, and now yesterday. So I never bothered getting anything from them besides Areia Lite. Yesterday was the third time that I asked about something and never got any response so I don't think I will take advantage of any of their sales or upgrades.

I’ve emailed them probably 5 times either for crossgrade discounts or support questions and always get an answer within 24 hrs on weekdays.
