Sordina 2: Explore New Horizons with Brass and String Mutes!

@TomaeusD I've just put out a new Windows version which solves the FL studio stereo issue (and hopefully doesn't break mono compatibility with other DAWs - I tested studio one and Reaper and all seems fine...)

I haven't looked to see if the same issue is present on MacOS yet, but it's on my todo list.

I actually manually installed Sordina 2 so I guess there is no way to check for available updates until you add this to a future version.
Aha yes I forgot you installed it manually. I don't plan to add an update notifier within Sordina itself. I don't really like the idea of plugins connecting to the internet unless it's critical to their purpose, but who knows what future Dave will think...

A simple solution would be to notify via email people that purchased your Sordina plugin of any new released update ;)

Yeah that's what I do for a major update, but I think people get annoyed if I do it for every minor fix - at least that's what the unsubscribe count indicates.

Maybe I'll add an update notifier with an option to disable it.

Fantastic, nice work!

Very good idea David ;)

Thanks a lot for all the updates...

I can wholeheartedly encourage anybody following this thread who’s still on the fence. I find Sordina to be a wonderful addition to my toolkit for accurately rendering muted orchestral instruments with high fidelity. Works particularly well with Synchron Brass which has lovely tone in itself. Bravo David.

I just wanted to say that I've finally had a chance to install the update to Sordina. It is very much better than I could have hoped - and already expected nothing less than excellence. Hoorah!

Thanks all for the kind words. I'm glad you're liking the plugin!

The update I put out the other day to fix a usability issue in FL Studio on Windows is also available now for MacOS and Linux.

See you next year!

Sordina really sounds very nice and very useful. What is the verdict on sources that are not dry - sounds like some think that Synchron can work, but what about CSS or even Air libraries?
I think it works well especially if you mess with the built in eq a little.
Here's some simple apples-to-apples comparisons on ensemble sections with wet mics - basically what it's not supposed to excel at, but let's see. Each comparison uses default mics and identical midi, but keep in mind certain patches have different numbers of layers, etc.

Each track is the real muted version of the patch, then the non-muted version with Sordina applied, and then the non-muted version with Sordina bypassed.

(bonus Pacific legato with/without Sordina)

I might also try to cook up a little track or two with a more orchestral context tomorrow.

Hey those are really nice little demos! Can I put them on the website?

Those do sound very nice wih wet libraries indeed! Thank you for putting this up here!

@d.healey Do you have a filter you might recommend which would approximate a cornet sound from a trumpet sample? I was looking at the "Humes & Berg Velvet Tone" Bucket mute.

I've just put together a cornet impulse that might do the trick for you. Load it into a convolution reverb plugin, set the wet to 100% and the dry to 0%. You might need to adjust the IR's start and end positions and possibly boost the gain - play around with is what I'm saying.

Thank you very much. I do notice a difference right off the bat! I'll tweak it a little bit as you recommended.

David,

Dorico doesn't yet have mixer automation. Do you know if Patchwork and VEP (I'm asking for multiple people) would allow Sordina to work in Dorico? I don't own Sordina yet, but the update easily wins me over. Well done!

I'm not sure what Patchwork is and I haven't used VEP so I can't give you a definite answer on this. But I believe there are some other people here using Dorico, I think with CC automation,
