Samplicity announces Berlin Studio plugin

Hi guys, I can see you've been having similar issues to me while using Studio One. Berlin Studio crashes while I use it on busses, also when I manage to get it working somehow (mostly by clicking everywhere), the sound gets very choppy. Any idea whether it's the DAW problem, or I'm doing something wrong? Sorry in advance, if this has been already asked and answered.

Have you contacted the developer about this?

Are you on Mac or PC ? I use quite a few instances (busses, inserts, aux) without any issues with S1 on Win11.

Curious what may be the issue - we continued via chat.
Since the 1.2 upgrade it should run really smooth with several/multiple instances.

Also, what kind of hardware / OS are you running your DAW?
And what kind of buffer size are you using?

This is about Studio One on a Mac. My current impression is that this is not a performance issue - something else is going on in this combination, which I will investigate this weekend.

And, for Berlin Studio the buffer/block size in the Daw does not make much difference, the major part of the processing is done on a separate thread (= not related to deadlines set by the host buffer size).

I have a test project in Logic with 16 instances, which shows a CPU load of around 20% with a blocksize of 128 samples, on a moderate Mini M1. If I set the blocksize to 32 samples, the CPU load goes up a little bit, but it still remains below 25%.

More importantly: Do you plan on replicating this in every major room / hall ? Sounds like a retirement plan to me.
Yeah, I was sort of wondering if locations like AIR or Abbey Road allow for someone to come in and record the space for a project like this -- or if they "own" the impulse responses of their space as a prohibited recording by clients? Obviously, they might take issue with a product that brands their space -- so potentially a new product would need to be called "Circus Hall Studio" and "South of the Heath Studio" or something similarly non-specific? But this thought has been crossing my mind as to whether it's allowable/feasible.

The more I use Berlin Studio, the more it really breathes life into some of my other samples. I was blown away at how lively and amazing the Bernard Hermann Composer Toolkit 8ve Legato High Strings patch became through BS on the weekend.

(I think the rights issue has been discussed in other threads. I was only half kidding, though.)

Hi Peter,
this reverb plugin is indeed a game-changer. Thank you so much for putting it out there.
Combining different libraries by placing them in the same room has never been easier.
Do you plan on adding more mic positions in the future?
Hi,

Thank you.

There are some ideas for more content like in Berlin Studio, but no plans yet.

Recent/current development focus is on other types of reverb plugins.
After that, I think Berlin Studio deserves a "central controller" GUI and additional output routing.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,

(Sorry if this has already been asked)

Is there any chance that you can create a reverb similar to Berlin Studio but with the ambience of the Synchron Stage? That would be awesome.

Hi,

Like I mentioned above:

"There are some ideas for more content like in Berlin Studio, but no plans yet."

With content I meant the acoustics/ambience of any other studio/stage/room.

I hope you understand that this requires recording sessions in Synchron Stage?
I think the chances are very, very small that they will allow this, as this studio is so important for their own VSL products, including MIR.

A similar argument probably applies to Air Lyndhurst and Abbey Road - as far as I know there are no IRs from them available in any product.

I have been in these three studios; one handclap and you already get a good impression of their beautiful acoustics, an asset they probably protect with contractual restrictions for people recording there.

Cheers,

Peter
