What's new
Yeah I'm testing this out on a i7 16 GB RAM laptop I borrowed. Even then, the RAM usage I see isn't very high and what happens more when I lack RAM is the entire DAW slows down while playing. This one for some reason just doesn't play some notes. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't and this inconsistency irks me.
Probably a local problem. Never encountered this issue and it’s the first time someone mentions it here?

I've not experienced that. Make sure virus exclusions are set up and that the computer is not power throttling (which it does by default). Those two things are the biggest causes of issues on windows. You can also try raising the preload amount for the drive incase there's a latency issue with the SSD.

I’ve been testing the lib quite intensively these 2 days and I didn’t have any single problem.
Of course, turning Stretch on kills my Mac.

I just had to adapt my workflow to the library since some articulations respond to either CC1, CC20, Velocity, etc and I usualy tailor VSL libs to my workflow and make my own art sets right after.
But since I’m using the demo and I don’t know if I keep it or not.
I really like so far :
- Shorts, shorts, shorts (never enough shorts). The spiccato tight is great.
- Legato are one step beyond SSP
- Measured trem are a bliss to work on

And of course, articulations being the same on each instrument, cohesive sound, (almost) no glitches or volume drops (looking at you, Spitfire)
That’s really a bliss to work with since you never lose time with annoying technical things.

I’ve yet to explore the mic mixes.

Good work VSL!

I know this was asked before but I can’t find it the answer. How many Dyn layers have this strings set?

it varies. Patch to patch. It seems enough. The shorts are a little cheated in places but it's not a deal breaker. Bartok Pizz is 1!...But for the heavy lifting patches you'll be fine

Really great demo! These are some of VSL's best sounding strings.
Yes, that's how I feel about these strings as well, to my ears, these VSL Synch. Duality Strings are their best sounding VSL strings so far. :2thumbs:

Another good reason that VSL is going to expand their Duality Strings concept, with more options, i.e. Sordino, Sul-Pont, Flautando, ..etc. this says a lot about how much VSL likes this new concept, and the sonic results it brings to the table are just wonderful.

I ended up purchasing VSL Synchron Duality Strings (full), it was a no brainer decision once I heard the sound of these strings, they surely sound (better to my ears/taste) or I should say different than the other Synchron Strings libraries they offer.

Sadly, I'm currently unable to test them, since I'm waiting for a new Custom built Studio PC for the studio, which might take another 2 to 3 weeks to materialize in the studio.

Funny, I was expecting VSL Synchron Solo Strings to be released, but VSL surprised us with this new Duality Strings Concept.

Anyways, I'm super excited, and very happy that VSL decided to go forward, and test this Duality concept, which proved to be a big success as far as the sonic results, and expressiveness are concerned. It would have been quite a big lost opportunity if they had decided not to bother with testing the Duality Concept.

I'm also curious to know who at VSL suggested, or came up, with the idea of the Duality Recording concept. Which I think has never been implemented by other sample library developers.

A big Thank You to VSL for their continued innovations, and hard work.

Cheers,

Good to see you again! I think it's a toss-up between Duality and SSP. A lot of people love Elite but something about it gives me the nails-on-a-chalkboard physical reaction. I could totally understand SSP owners skipping Duality but if someone's new to VSL, Duality has a lot to offer

Just wondering at this point how many have purchased the Standard vs. the Full version. I’m thinking of upgrading mine to Full before the intro pricing expires. Is it worth it?

I caved in and got it. I wasn't too convinced by any of the demos I have heard, but after playing with it myself for a few hours I am pretty convinced it will have its uses. It also has a ton of articulations, and the A/B mixing does make for a pretty flexible sound. I wish there had been more dynamic layers, especially for the longs. Really a pity that mp seems to be the lowest dynamic recorded. Will have to fake it with filtering (ehhh I mean "timbre adjust").

Looking mostly forward to the sordino edition. I really hope they do molto molto vib for this. But knowing VSL's history of going easy on vibrato I am not holding my breath for that one:)

It was VSL's semi-official answer since years to layer - say - Appassionata Strings with Dimension Strings for a maximum of flexibility, malleability and realism. The idea of having both components in one library, coming from one recording session, is most certainly a consequence of this experience.

In case anyone missed the email, this will be back on intro pricing again from 20th - 30th November. That includes both the regular and con sordino libraries. I procrastinated too long the first time around so I’m thinking of picking these up.
