High quality film music mock-ups - Best string libraries and or best combination of libraries?

CSS is 10/7/7/6/5. It would be interesting if CS could make something slightly smaller, like eg Spitfire Studio Strings/Appassionata (both are 8/6/6/6/4) – or even smaller (6/5/5/5/4)!

Or do what e Seiji Ozava occasionally does: use only one bass player!

I don’t know why but no matter how many times I listen to the SStS, it just not convincing to me. Yes it is good in its own way but man it’s too damn dry. You need to be extremely careful when using. On the other hand, the SStS Pro comes with a bigger section too, along with the divisi.

Im which way berlin symphonic Strings are better?
I have Berlin Strings and its good and more versatile but pacific has a better Sound and legato, mich more dynamic layers and is cpu friendly.
So again, in which Point besides the clinical Sound) is Berlin Strings better?
I thought we were talking about Berlin Strings, not Berlin Symphonic? Anyway though Berlin Strings has a far wider range of expression and vibrato, and the sound works better in many scenarios. In particular, if I want strings to cut through a mix. Way, way more articulations and shorts. More detail and precision.

They're both great tools. It's useless trying to figure out which one is "better". Just use the one that better fits your current need

I think it's high time Cinematic Studio Series made a CSS-extended library with sul ponte, portamento, glissando, ricochet, accented trills, flautando etc., and some kind of short diminuendo (longer than the sforzando articulation) can't hurt either. CSS is the only library that - to me - sounds convincing, and it's such a shame that we have to turn to other libraries for those kind of articulations.

i dont mind paying for the expansion.

I disagree about CSS being the only string lib which sounds convincing, but I’m sure lots of users would pay for a ‘pro’ upgrade if it added many new articulations, more length options, attack options, dynamic layers or even release variations.

I could take the time to walk through it all, point by point, but I suspect that would be a waste of time, so I'll keep it brief.

2nd violins.
2nd violins are so overrated, just take the 1st violins and transpose them down 2 semitones, 2nd violins have a slightly darker tone, so that does the job very well.
But i know what you mean, the portamento legato in the upper dynamics is very annoying...
If you wont go higher than CC100 its okay but anything that goes over CC100 is just not playable for soaring legato lines.
Everything except the legato is amazing in this library, even tho the legato is still good, the upper dynamics are the problem.
Berlin Strings are better in terms of consistens and articulations, but i like the sound and simplicity of pacific more.

But anyways, the best legato is for sure from Soaring strings.
For runs that arent to complex i use BBCSO portamento and CSS marcato without spicc overlay.
For complex runs i use Orchestral tools string runs.

What string library is among the best but with lowest latency and highest playability? I have CSS and Project Sam and tried doing a score for a 48 this weekend and had to replace CSS because I couldn’t get the latency issue fixed. Ready to try something else…

Hello!

I've been using Cinematic Studio Strings for a while in combination sometimes with other libraries such as Symphobia and others for other articulations aside from legato.

The thing is that, even if I still find CSS amazing, and after using it for some years already and found ways to make it sound very realistic, my ears are getting tired of the same sound again and again.

I wanted to ask about one or two really AMAZING string libraries for film music production, specially for legato/espressivo.

Thank you!
Important to note: everyone here is saying their 2nd best recommendation because Infinite Strings is already implied to be the best

Been loving the updated Audio Imperia Areia v1.2 strings.
The legatos are so much more expressive and playable, a definite improvement.
I think even Daniel James said in his first avin a look at Areia v1.1 that it felt like a good alternative to CSS (his bread and butter at the time)

I have CSS and feel the same way.
They are both cinematic out of the box.
Also both have great shorts.
The Audio Imperia aesthetic pushes the tonal element more towards a modern feel with the obvious “modern” mix, but the “classic” mix also gets it closer to CSS territory.
Plus, the pyramid engine is super easy to work with.
Lately I’ve found myself reaching for Areia over CSS when I just want to start noodling.
They are both still different enough from each other, which expands my palette, rather than overlaps.

Areia strings and Berlin Strings are joy to play on keys for me.

You will always get tired because it is the same playing

you also get tired of real players

focus on patches, not libraries.* You have to buy many libraries anyway if you want to access different playing styles and recordings. If you can do this, take a new look into freebies

A mockup composer is more or less satisfied using things in their limits; the classical composer will never be satisfied in these matters. But this one can depend on paper somehow

The reality is that many sounds out there are beyond perfect to make someone cry or have a trip…

* i did a detailed video about this for a reason….!
