What's new

New Spitfire library with Bleeding Fingers & James Everingham

I bought Fractured Strings during the spring sale.

I am really loving it, except for the frustration of not having a clear indication in the GUI of which patches are tempo synced and which are not.

But there's something horribly wrong about the solo cello arps patch: it's tuned more or less a major 3rd down! and the tuning is not even stable, there are variations up to a semitone just repeating the same note. No issue with the solo violin patch.
This is really weird and I have never heard of such a problem here.
Download and installation went smoothly. the Spitfire App shows it as regularly installed.
Initially I thought it could be an issue related to VEPRO, but I tried directly with Studio One and I got the same problem.
Any idea?

I am going to submit this to SA obviously.

here is an audio excerpt. I just played the same note :emoji_confused:

I just tested and I'm not seeing the same issue. What daw are you using and what tempo?

interesting, thanks!

I have the same problem both while using VEPRO 7 (updated to the last version) with Studio One 6 where Studio One is on my Mac and Vepro is running on a Win PC and while using Studio One on the Win PC.

I am just going to try this with Logic.

EDIT: tempo is 97.50

I tried with Logic (using Vepro as I have not yet installed Fractured Strings on my Mac) and I got exactly the same problem!

Btw changing tempo does not influence this behavior

It's like that for me too. I'm on windows and use Cakewalk. I hope this can get fixed in an update. Really love the library other than that!

Hmmm, there's something strange going on with the tempo in that case because the clip you posted seems to be around 128bpm, not 97.5. What happens if you round up to 98? What do you have selected in pitch/stretch quality in the player options?

when I tried with Logic I created a new project using the default tempo and all the default settings but the problem was still there.

oh, I forgot to mention that today I don't see the "automatically transposed a major 3rd down" issue! it is gone - weird -, and "only" the unstable tuning is still there.

but yes the "execution" of the arpeggio in the audio clip is faster than 97.50 so this could be perhaps related to the issue?

It's got to be. Seems like the SF players struggling to sync tempo, causing the lo-fi tape wobble! I can only assume it's a VEP issue so maybe someone who has a similar setup can test too. Good luck!

I think it's not a VEP issue. I reproduced it in Studio One loading Fractures Strings directly. I am not sure if @AndromedaX8 is using VEP

I think @AndromedaX8 is referring to the lack of UI hint as to what's tempo synced? I find that irritating too, but I'm not holding my breath on SF changing any UI features anytime soon.
No, I was talking about the solo cello arps. I'm experiencing the same issue with my setup. Interesting to hear that you don't have this problem. Really curious now what might be causing this.

No, I'm not using VEP.

There is a German review by Tim Heinrich on YouTube and it seems he is having the same issue too. He is playing the solo cello arps from minute 27:00 until 28:30.

I have what at first blush sounds like a different issue, but may be related, which is that I get some undesirable and inconsistent flanging. I used the same C2 note as @mgaewsj to share. My tempo here is 120, but it's evident across tempos.

I'll log this with Spitfire as a bug, and would encourage others to do the same.

exactly!
I assume then that Spitfire is aware of this issue and that they are probably not going to fix it, as usual
I will submit it anyway.

btw which version of the library are you using guys?

in the GUI I am reading 1.0.4
on disk I can see that both the Patches and Presets folders have a 1.0.2 sub folder

1.0.4 for me too. It's a really great library except for this one issue and I would love to be able to use the solo cello arps. Let's hope that it can be fixed.
