What's new

Wallander WIVI

Hey Saxor! I'd love to be able to run WIVI on my Mac Studio M2. But I need your help understanding what you're saying: You mentioned macOS Ventura but follow it with 10.6 ... isn't that like OSX Snow Leopard? What am I missing?
Sorry, I wrote 10.6 instead of 13.6 - it's definitely Ventura. (I corrected my post up there)

Saxer, Thanks for clarifying. I'll try to get WIVI installed and working in Logic Pro 10.8 on my M2 Ultra running Sonoma 14.2. Man, that would be welcome news for a lot of folks. Maybe I'll get lucky enough to pull it off.

Merry Christmas to all. I was hoping I could give the community an Xmas gift and see if I could get WIVI to work on a Mac Studio M2 Ultra running Sonoma 14.2. and running Logic Pro 10.8.

The short version? No, I could NOT get it to work.

The details: I enabled Rosetta 2 for Logic, did get the WIVI Player to load, be recognized by Logic's Plug-In Manager and even validated but, in practice, while the WIVI plug-in did open, it was not functional, would not load any library. So, for me, the effort was a bust.

HCMarkus and Saxer aside (macOS Ventura), I will keep my eyes open for someone who can get WIVI fully working in Sonoma and on an M2.

I'm still on Ventura so I don't know anything about Sonoma. I installed WIVI on an older Intel system years ago and when I changed to my current M1 Ultra I used the Migration Assistent to copy all my stuff over and updated incompatible plugins later. No clean install on my system. WIVI worked so I didn't change it. I think it might be just the installer/copy protection and not the plugin itself that's incompatible with the newer OS. But that's just speculation.

I am not sure if this helps, since I am still on Ventura 13.6 (base, 22G120), but I had migrated to this M2 Max laptop from a previous M1 install running Monterey (I believe), so WIVI had gotten copied over, and it never worked - would crash Live or Logic as soon as it started up, I think I tried reinstalling with new installers and still no luck; that was maybe a year ago.

I just pulled some new install links, and the new installers look different than I remember, and now it works fine. So it might be worth trying if you are on Ventura and haven't in a while.

-> well, it worked once :( i could do everything, play sounds, edit things, etc.
when I restarted ableton live though, it stopped working. Investigating (at least I know it can, have to figure out what broke it now...)

Hey Chroma, Thank you for the update. It's good to know. I got new install files from Wallander eleven days ago, I wonder if they've made a change since then? Interestingly, you are one of three people (so far) on this forum that have WIVI working on the newer Mac M1-M2 architecture. You each have certain things in common, mainly you all use macOS Ventura and you migrated your data.

Uh oh ... sorry to hear it broke. Best of luck and I hope you get it working again. If so, let us know how you did it

so... after playing with it a bit, it just seems unstable. If I try to load it 5 times (in ableton live), 3 times it just hangs, once it loaded but then when I tried to load the GUI it disconnected, and once it worked fine. Nothing else changed. It seems that once it starts up it's stable though, so hopefully he can work it out... i know it isn't even sold anymore but I'd love to have it working well again...

Hey @Saxer - you said you migrated an older version. What is the version # of your wivi? I wonder if an older version would work better (current download is 2.50)...

there's a new v2.70 update of WIVI's family. Works very well in M1 MacOs Ventura
Just downloaded and installed it, and it works beautifully. I can't believe this doesn't generate a bigger buzz. I've actually held on to an old MacOS computer just to have something to test some WIVI setups on. Awesome! 😊

Working great here too!! I had to restart the Mac after installing (fairly normal for AU at least) then I was able to start several of them no problem, works great. Thanks Arne for this, amazing support so long after it was discontinued, it’s still unique….

I have only Wivi Band, Wallander's stripped-down version of its modeling VIs. Stripped down, but still great... I use the Horns and Clarinet a lot. I wish I had purchased a broader range of these instruments back when we still could.

For the AU, restart after install worked for me, too. I'm running DP11.3 on an M1 Mac. Interestingly, PlugInfo (Mac app) shows a VST3 version with no other info except file size. When I ran Digital Perform (before the re-start), the VST3 showed up as available, and when I selected it, it was scanned by DP. But it did not show up as a VI option for an instrument slot once DP was running a project.

After the re-start, the VST3 was gone from DP's available VST3s, but PlugInfo still shows it. I wrote to Arne seeking info in this regard.

That said, the AU is working well in DP. PlugInfo shows it as Intel 32, Intel 64, PowerPC (hinting at its origins), dated 11/12/2018. The VST version has the same date. As noted above, the VST3 version is undated in PlugInfo. Despite the lack of Apple Silicon Native support, the plugin runs great as a Rosetta AU in DP Native.

The WIVI Band Plugin VST3 has been updated again, per Alexander at Wallander.

If you need the VST3 version of this plugin, you may want to download and install the update.

I've been using the AU and it is fine. Needs Rosetta on a Mac, though.

I think it's a shame this line is no longer available for sale. Be nice if they released it for free like Synful Orchestra.

I think I've said it here before, but even if I bought it, I won't mind seeing Wivi come back free and open source.
This could give it the possibility of being continually updated by a community, and we could compensate the creator with donations, rather than letting this excellent software fall into oblivion.
