Discussion Thread for Soundpaint Products

Consistently the best of the anti-Kontakt sampling engines.
Agreed, although in terms of true sampling and scripting power Halion and Falcon beat it. But for the common layman, like myself, it is a dream to work with. I have a ton of samples (converted / crossgraded all of my 8Dio stuff) and a couple of my own recordings and “shareware” samples all in there now, as a huge collection of Lego soundbricks, all usable in ‘patch creation’. The modular approach and the excellent FX racks do the rest. It has a distinctive KISS approach that just works.

I have an old custom Kontakt library I made with about ... maybe 15 samples. Five pitches, three round robins each. One dynamic layer.

Is there a simple step by step guide on how to move this super basic instrument into Soundpaint?

I have no idea, but there is no RR function yet in USI 2.0 that I am aware of. The import of WAVs is a simple “drag & drop” and “drag to the right key” operation. Hit the “fill out” button. Done. I think the next iteration of the User Sample Import will add RR functions. The current 2.0 upgrade brought velocity layers.

You really don’t need a video. Someone with your skill set will immediately know what to do. I think the walkthrough posted above does show the process and the older USE 1.0 videos do that too. But most people do not fancy watching Troels videos, so if that’s not your thing you’re out of luck hehe.

ah, that explains it! thanks!!
To be clear, despite my enthusiasm: USI 2.0 is still an extremely rudimentary sample import thing (except for the velocity morphing perhaps). In no way does it rival Kontakt or the other big league contenders. But once the samples are IN the engine the fun starts, especially given the ease with which you can use your own alongside any and all Soundpaint building blocks you may have - across the libraries you’ve bought.

But if they keep up this pace of development it will get even better.

If there was the possibility of directly importing the format. sf2 or. sfz, it would be a great step in the growth of libraries for all those who were interested in creating instruments for Soundpaint, personally I still use many. sf2, and I think everyone who has ever used these formats still has them, I have tons of instruments... with a simple import function added to the program, soundpaint would be something very special... Sure.

True. But in the mean time you can easily convert sf2 to WAVs

Adastra is rapidly becoming my favorite string library. That said, I'm a little irritated that I have to pay $30 for the chamber strings when I already own Anthology...

Having to pay in these cases is always irritating. But the combined cost of ownership is probably still pretty low, relatively speaking ;)

Can you automate the new color function in version 3?
That would open up some interesting possibilities.

I have been waiting to see how SP develops before jumping in and the whole platform has come along a long way.
There are probably about two dozen libraries I can consider crossgrading at low prices.
