Musio's Music Composing Contest

@Gedren, the horn at the beginning is the Lur Horn - Sustain. Listening to several YT videos gave me a sense for what playing Lur horn notes should sound like. In the Musio lib each note is recorded with longer rising attack/falling decay components that are closer to what a single isolated horn note would sound like. So I rendered the notes to audio and attenuated some of the attack/decay parts.

BTW I love your Musio piece. Fast-moving with lots of energy and very tightly produced.

@syrinx, really great composition, congrats! I really got completely captivated by the music and the visuals!.. Your music really tells a story, I love how it starts softer and then changes to active part and back to softer again.
Thanks, I always want to go for that soft ambient fantasy style, but this time I felt I wanted to try something more action-oriented as well. I did spend some time on those visuals, so I'm glad it didn't just look weird!

Btw, what did all of you think of working with Musio? I found the workflow really smooth.

Overall pretty good and getting better with each new player feature update. For instruments that have been updated to the new player layout (i.e. with a reverb bypass switch) no major issues*--I mostly use a single track per articulation as opposed to using the keyswitch patches which makes it easier to set the negative track delays in my template.

* I use Cubase 12. Currently there is a "reverb not staying set to 0" issue with instruments that have not yet been updated to the new format. I suspect they will address that soon. Otherwise it's been very nice to use.

If you want to see all the other entries submitted via YouTube just do a YT search for #madewithmusio. There are some great entries there. No idea how many were submitted direct to Instagram.
I think there's more on Instagram though, since that's what they announced!

Btw love listening to all the entries here and on Insta! So many varieties of styles. I had lots of fun with this one too, despite having another project I gotta work on at the same time lol. Good luck, guys! :)

@Gedren I love that you decided to go outside of the usual orchestra for this one! Such a great piece! It shows how capable you are in any genre. Best of luck with the competition :)

@Frank Paul, thank you so much for your most kind comment! I greatly enjoyed your track, fantastic entry! I love the beautiful harmonies you chose, the instrumentation and the overall mood! Good luck to you!=)

Congratulations to all the finalists!

It was interesting to hear the music they picked and their comments.

I was really hoping up to the last entry that I'd get feedback from Jason Hayes, but alas!

It was very generous of Musio to give such a memorable opportunity to have Jason Hayes commenting - as he has been the inspiration for me to start learning composing digital music!..

Both of your entries are very great as well!! Love your colorful orchestration, Frank. And your entry sounds very different and original, Maria. Very brilliant entries! :)

Oh geez, Jason Hayes will be judging the finalists!.. This man has been my music idol for many years! Just thanks to him I decided to start learning digital music composing and set a goal to become a game composer!..

Your track has a great video game vibe. It sounds like it can be in a new Castlevania or Vampire Survivors or Metroidvania genre.

The timing and your use of flow in your music is what makes this one really stand out.
