[Solved] Recent font changes?

I'm guessing this theme is called "Uniform Dark", and then there's a Child theme on top, hence "Uniform Dark Child"

EDIT: yup

Yes. But the smilies are a separate issue. We kept the old set and added a new one. Old timers remember... :)

:elephant::rofl::dancedance::shocked::scout:o_O etc.

"Max-height" - otherwise the new set would be displayed full size (svg files, vectorial and huge). That's why they need to be constrained.

Yeah, but if you set the max-height to 16px, they all get smooshed down so they don't break lines, or make any of the line heights wonky

Is this on mobile or desktop? Strange... I see this from my post:

Anyways, we live with the browsers we choose. :)

That's after I set max-height to 16px on my end, just to show what it would look like if you did that. with the max-height set to 32px as it is now, all smileys will be taller than the font size and add weird line heights. This is just a suggestion so that no matter what is used, smileys or emoji from keyboards on mobile, they'll be uniform.

Some emojis are already so tiny it's hard to see what exactly they mean. I've often mistaken the two thumbs up smiley for a two middle fingers up smiley at first glance.

There are browser extensions that allow users to apply local stylesheet changes per website. Since it is impossible to cater to everyone's preferences equally, for a lot of details that may be the way to go.

There's something off about this...
I can live with it just fine, but thats not the one that was there before is it?

Just trying to help, but now I brought back the old settings. Clear your cache and see if it fixed anything on your end?

Any future permanent modifications will have to go through Mike so he can make the final decisions.

Cheers,

André

If you have Roboto installed but not Roboto Slab, and it now looks different than before, then you can uninstall Roboto if you don't need to have it installed. It should fallback to the same fallback font you were used to.

UPDATE: I have reverted all the settings to their original format. Roboto is back, but it's not the Roboto SLAB, only regular.

You can't ever please everyone and their mother-in-law, I heard it said.
I'm so sorry for the headache I've caused you with this thread! I really am. If you need to go back to Roboto Slab to please the masses that's fine with me too. I won't be needing that font forever and can just uninstall it afterwards or use a browser extension to override it. Or I get used to it, that might happen too. I don't hate the font in general, just any font change is irritating for me at first (and seemingly for a lot of other people as well).

Don't give it another thought, Martin, you have nothing to be sorry for. You rightly drew attention to an issue. There are so many variants in this that all we can hope for is a consensus of the most helpful parameters. I think we got there.

I reverted to the earlier settings, but I hadn't notice at the time (2020?) the difference between Roboto "Slab" and "Regular." For the rest, I think we all want to improve on things.

Cheers,

Andre

Weird... as of this afternoon, some fonts are now different for me. The default post font is the same Verdana, but the font for screen names, buttons, thread titles, etc. is now harder to read because it's bolder and more squashed together.

Screenshot please? :)

If you want to do a full rollback, you have to set it to Robot Slab again. Otherwise everyone who has Roboto installed but not Roboto Slab will see the forum differently now compared to before any changes were made. Apparently Roboto is a System Font on Android phones. Roboto Slab might be too, I'm not sure. In that case Android Users would also see the forum differently than before the changes.

Done.

All fixed!
Glad it worked!

I'm thinking that what happens is that the browser is substituting the closest font it can find to replace Roboto Slab when that one is absent, or using the next in line in the list, which is Helvetica.

Thanks for the help,

Andre (or nerdA)
