What's new

Radiohead appreciation thread

Seen them many times live, my favourite ever band. I'm with Temme, Bends was their peak album in terms of melodic and harmony. Kid A was most ambitious and progressive.

That live version of spinning plates with the piano played by Thom as he sings, that's magic.

Rick Beato has some videos where he breaks down the music theory for Radiohead tracks, and it's wild.... Way more complex than you expect.

Radiohead is great and Thom Yorke is absolutely amazing. Optimistic blew my mind once upon a time and I still listen to it (just today, in fact). Harrowdown Hill is also a fave.

That said, "older music"? I bet kids see "Friends" the way my generation saw "I Love Lucy". Oof.

Well, kind of I guess? I know it's not that old, if you count it as 90s music it's only like 18yrs before I was born. But I'm just saying that I personally think it's better than a lot of the new stuff today (only my opinion, of course).

Another favourite:

And I also love a very young Radiohead playing two songs by two OTHER very important and good Manchester bands (New Order / Joy Division and The Smiths):

Thanks for sharing! I'm a huge Radiohead fan but don't get around to searching the YouTubes much. I love joy division and the smiths so this was a real treat.

All my friends are into more modern songs. And I'm here listening to Radiohead, Sting, Elton John (Your Song and Rocket Man used to be on REPEAT), Lin Manuel Miranda, and film scores obviously haha. Oh well, guess I'm old school 😅

Well, don't miss out on Led Zeppelin, The Eagles ( personal favourite, "wasted time" on hotel California). Also my favourite album of all time, Paul Simon, Graceland.

Whilst contemporary rock music is ok, I don't feel there's been any amazing new bands in the last 10-15 years. I'm guessing limited studio time budgets is a big factor, and less money to throw around trying new and different acts.
