Music that makes you cry

I love this thread. I hope it goes on forever. Here is one I could not even listen to for years. Apparently it is about a simple high school breakup, but it was much more to me, and came to represent an extraordinary loss that I could never get over.

When the she stops singing and the crowd takes over I lose it every time. But this is such a gorgeous song. Just incredible writing.

Ill just tack on the the duet with Elton John:

Will add my own here:

"From Paris with Love" from Melody Gardot:

This a song from during the pandemic and the video just gets me. Every time.

And someone already posted Morten Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium" but a different version. Here is my favorite from VOCES8.

I only ever got a little misty eyed the first time I heard Strauss' An Alpine Symphony during the transition into the forest (Eintritt in den Wald).

It always comes down to personal experience with the song, some story attached, memories etc.

For me it's always symphonic music that makes me emotional, but this song has always made me emotional too, but not in a sad way.

The Hunger Games: Rue's Farewell - James Newton Howard

Sad music from the scene where the little girl Rue is wounded and dies in the arms of Katniss. The emotion is caught in a great way by James Newton Howard, especially from 2:55 it's extremely beautiful and moving. I always get emotional when listening to it.

Another on from (my favorite composer) JNH, the end of King Kong, where King Kong just died. You can hear the loss of a unique creature, caught against his will, so very well in this music, again a great track.
