Staffpad Feature Suggestion thread

You can export audio from a soloed track now. solo the track you want or mute the ones you dont want.
That is great to know! It's not exporting markup, but good to know at any rate!

I realized today that the mixer view would only be complete with proper level meters. I had clipping signals today (crackling of audio, because of loudness) and I couldn't really tell where it comes from or how much I would have to reduce levels once I know where it happens.

—Explode/reduce copy and paste a la Dorico

—Retrograde transform for a selected passage

—Bulk enharmonic respelling (would make current “record to notation” easier to use too!)

—More complex time signatures (eg 2+3/8)

—Beamed rests (if not already implemented— been awhile since I tried this)

—Export a score playback video from share sheet

Long hold on pen to pop up a list of note durations while writing (8th, 16th, etc.) and allow specified note to be automatically entered at pencil location, provide a “sticky” option to keep requested note duration each time pencil touches down, long press to pop up note duration with “turn off sticky option”

this is awesome, I just learned a great keyboard shortcut!

On Mac or iPad long hold the Command key and a window will open showing all keyboard shortcuts, Windows offers something similar but don’t remember the key

I can imagine the wait with a long hold. Double tap on the pencil or the screen to instantly have it pop up. Any of these would find a grateful reception from me, however.

What would be really useful is a mute bar feature. This means we could try out different arrangements as we compose without having to delete already entered notes. I requested this recently, and Eric responded he would forward it to the developers. If more users wanted it they might actually do it.

Another great feature would be to allow for selection of volume, expression and automation data to be included when copy and pasting selected bars.

Incremental Copy/Paste between scores is currently doable but tedious (open first score, select notes, copy notes, close first score, open second score, paste notes, wash, rinse, repeat).

Would rather be able to drag a section of notes and possibly a group of instruments from score and drop copy into a new midi file.

Also, would like to be able to drag a midi file and drop onto score (essentially add to or potentially replace a section of whatever is already in score).

My number one request would be sharps, flats and naturals as a selectable brush. It is really only the naturals which cause me grief. I dread anytime I am forced to draw them. It takes so many attempts.

unfortunately no such thing on windows.

Does someone know what
"Ctrl+< or Ctrl+> = flip between tabs"
refers to?

Naturals are the easiest of the three for me: two pen strokes, L and upsidedown L, both slightly slanted and connected.

don't mock us, man, we're trying😂
Today I had to do it at least ten times and the worst thing is, when it works, I can't tell what I did differently

I had a bit of a time with this one too, but got the hang of it. I felt that with enough practice, the handwriting recognition is pretty solid now for me.

Two things:
Clef changes mid-measure, and

"Reminder" accidentals, where they are strictly speaking not necessary, but help the reader, as in an F sharp below the bass staff followed by an F sharp above the bass staff later in the measure. I'd like to be able to place a sharp once again next to the second F in the measure.

Better handwriting recognition of single 'sixteenth notes' (either before or after a dotted-eighth note rest). I know that you can 'drag' out to either lengthen or shorten the duration of a note which is very handy many times!

This might be my own handwriting problem, but sixteenth notes always hang me up for too long.

Also:
- a small simple mixer for Mutes, Solos, and overall track level Volume adjustment

What would be nice:
- when getting ready to export your file as an MXL file, it'd be nice to have a 'warning reminder' to delete any tracks that could 'dirty up' an MXL file (ie: a reminder to delete handwritten notes, delete a time tempo track, or delete anything else that could cause an export to another notation program)
Live and learn!

Tip from self: if I notate a sixteenth note (with two flags on stem) with the stem pointing in the ‘wrong’ direction, it will correct itself.

So…the handwriting recognition best loves to recognize my sixteenth note notation when I have ‘stems down’ entry. Therefore, if I notate a note below the middle of the staff with the stem pointing down, it will get recognized and ‘correct itself’ for the proper stem direction after I enter it.

Seems to pretty foolproof for me now. Very high ‘batting average’.

Some of you have other quirks to work around, but this may help someone!

Hi,

clef changes mid measure already work since 2020
