What's your fastest way of getting notes accurately into Dorico?

Btw, since Stream Deck is really useful for note entry, if you don't have a Stream Deck, there is a Stream Deck Mobile app that you can use on your phone or ipad. You can use six buttons entirely for free, or more for $$.

Thanks for the tip! I've still been on the fence about getting a Stream Deck, so that would be a nice way to try it out.

Hey so I have multiple monitors, for Dorico I use the top monitor in "write" mode and I can see the whole score or big chunks at a time. On the bottom monitor I have "play" mode and have the key editor up . I can pretty quickly play or record a phrase in the key editor, edit it like other DAWs and see it in the score on the monitor above. As I tweak the score I can just click on a measure in the score and the key editor jumps to the same measure, making it very easy to tweak notes...much quicker than I can in Write mode.

So my process is actually like this...I compose in a DAW, export a midi file. Open a midi file in Dorico and place it onto a third monitor on the side. Start a clean, new Dorico file from scratch with all the parts laid out correctly. Depending on the situation I copy and paste sections from the midi file, or record into the key editor, or draw in the key editor...or nothing against it, just my lack of trying, input in Write mode.

When I have a big, beautiful score in Dorico, with all the notes where I like, I then export the midi file back into Cubase to mix and add live players

Its starting to work very well for me, but I'm checking out steam deck shortly!

If you write in Cubase, exporting MIDI from there into Dorico is the most seamless way. Just be sure to use legato and delete overlaps for your notes correctly in cubase before exporting and your life wilol be super easy in Dorico…
