Halloween Hangover Scoring Challenge - Martin Heidenreich Music / Implied Music

@Bee_Abney , this is super-cool entry you have and very interesting approach!
Thank you for sharing!)
You are very kind and encouraging, I really appreciate it! I know that my approach didn't lead to the most musical result in terms of melody and harmony and so on, but it was certainly fun to try it out. I still think of it as music instead of sound effects.

I've spent a huge amount of my life playing songs in bands, where melody is so important. I really like not being tied to that now. (I also love not using lyrics anymore; there are enough words in my life!)

Great work. Very chilling; very much a complete sound track. This just worked - with one exception: I doubt that Rebecca has such a full, womanly voice! Or, to be fair, perhaps that was Martin screaming as Rebecca's mouth didn't move...

Martin - how womanly is your scream? You're a strongly built gentleman, so I imagine you have at least a little resonance.

Anyway, Manfred, I think that you did some very professional work here.

Thank you Bee! Appreciate. You are 100% correct about the voice. I knew it when I hit “send”. Ugh! It’s a women’s voice, and the picture is a teenager. I just had no time to get the right sound in time (should have tried a pitch shift). It does take away from the overall “sell” of the score. I appreciate your keen ear!

Do you have a formant shifter effect? Soundtoys' Little Choir boy is one of the best known, though not necessarily the best. You can also just filter out low resonances. These approaches can work better than pitch shifting to create a younger sounding voice.

The biggest difference between male and female voices, for example, is not pitch (fundamental frequency) but the range of frequencies. Men generally have a lot of lower resonances, whereas woman tend not to. That's even more so for younger voices.

I don't know too much about formants, but it seems like upshifting the formants alters the resonance without altering the fundamental pitch.

Thanks again Bee. I’ll pick up Little Choir Boy BF ($49). Great tool to have for such purposes. Appricate the heads up and lesson. Never knew such a thing existed (much of the tech is relatively new to me). Still challenged by my DAW and MIDI :)

Actually, I'd forgotten this plugin, which does the same thing and has a free version:

I can't say which is better, though!

The contest results will be announced today on the livestream.

Congrats everyone on the great work! It was really fun experience, and it was very inspiring to listen to other entries.

That only gives me this afternoon to watch all of the entries posted here - and all of them in the play list. Eek!
