What's new

Nolan’s Oppenheimer (Ludwig Göransson)

Very stupid question: last weekend I finally saw the movie for the first time. There were certain parts in the score that very much reminded me of Fractured Strings by Spitfire Audio (if I have time, I will try to find the exact spots in the score at some point). Anybody else had that feeling?

Dude that is awesome. Enjoy the concert!

You know I will!!

How did you find tickets? 😯

None other than the conductor himself!! Him and I know each other and he knows how much I love LG, whenever the concert was announced it sold out in like 5 seconds and I told him I was really bummed out I wasn’t going to be able to go, and very last minute he messaged me and told me he had an extra ticket and said I could have it!

The power of networking in full effect. Remember me Kenneth, when I will be texting you for Oscar tickets when you’re a nominee in 2034.

At the rate this kid is making connections he'll be scoring Oscar nominated films in 5 years.

Just don't forget to include actual filmmakers in your journey KEM.

It’s all about the connections!!! That’s what they always tell you about Hollywood and it’s completely accurate; it’s not about what you know, it’s about who you know. There’s probably a thousand kids in Hollywood that can write circles around me, but a lot of them just aren’t putting themselves in positions to get anywhere with their skills, but I’ve made a conscious effort to really try and get in the room with all these people and use my extroverted personality to its advantage and build friendships with these people, so when the time comes they already know who I am and what I can do, and they like me enough to give me a shot

He should win but the Oscars were de-legitimized for me when I was 10 and Star Wars lost best picture to Annie Hall. Yeah, haven't watched it since then. Total sham.

Though if Will Smith was allowed to attend again, I'd probably watch it for the entertainment value.
Good thing you didn't see Goldsmith's amazing ST:TMP lose to A little Romance or Superman lose to Midnight Express (which I like but seriously it didn't make the film). And the list goes on. I would have given Planet of the Apes best score for 1968..

And you will certainly cry in 2035 when I’ll beat KEM’s fantastic score for Tenet IV : Origins at the Oscars with my score for Toilet Paper : A true story, made only with kazoos and sliding whistles.

Love the confidence in here, my only aspiration for 2034-2035 is to not be drooling on myself 100% of the time. Excited for you man, it will be amazing!

I just watched this, and I thought the score was mostly brilliant. I really like polyrhythm approach and the swarming, sinewy textures that happen between the synths and the orchestra. Though, there were times where I felt it overpowered the dialog. Perhaps just too high in the mix, especially considering Nolan's refusal to overdub (and for good reason). Anyone else have this problem, or was it just me?

Personally I like it, but others don’t. But it’s absolutely intentional, Nolan loves the music in his films and when he feels like a piece of dialogue might not necessarily be that important for understand or advancing the story he’ll often just pump up the music and/or sound effects to engage the audience more and sell a really big moment

As someone that sees every Nolan film a minimum of 10 times in theaters and dissects every little detail on the physical releases it doesn’t bother me at all since I end up figuring out every line anyways, and I also buy the official screenplays as well so that also helps ;)

I respect that decision. In many movies today the sound effects completely obliterate and drown out the score, to the detriment of the overall experience (and disrespect to the composer). By the way, I am profoundly jealous of you. Enjoy!
