Suggestions for our recommended readings

For quite a while now, Amazon has been offering Rimsky-Korsakov's Principles of Orchestration on Kindle for free, and of course Amazon provides the Kindle app for most platforms, so here's one from the list at no cost:

I didn't see Roger Session's Harmonic Practice yet in the list. He was a major composer in the 20th century and also a university professor. It is out-of-print but I found a used copy in nice shape online for reasonable. Tons of musical exercises for self study-not dry. And the rules of harmony are presented and explained in a way that minimize the academic aspect and maximize how the "rules" are really just principles or guidelines related to how the ear is hearing and evaluating harmony in a musical context.

Just received this fascinating book: Béla Bartók: An Analysis of his Music by Ernö Lendvai.

It goes into great depth about his use of the Golden Section and the Fibonacci series.

that´s a gift!

Whoever is interested in Bartok, take a good look into his music for children. He shows his techniques and musical thoughts in a very explicit way there.

I cant believe no one has mentioned this Yet but this Book is a must must must for orchestrators.
