Arturia V Collection X released

I somehow ended up with two V Collection licenses in my account. To be sure I didn’t hobble my upgrade, I created a new Arturia account and transferred the extra (older) license there. After a few weeks everything was fine, so I transferred the extra license to a friend.

It is generally free to transfer Arturia licenses. Note that some transfers require a support ticket. Moving it first to an account fully within your control allows you to move it back if there is some dependency or unintended consequence of the transfer.
that a clever idea - thx 😉

Sad ... first time I won't be upgrading. 199 just too steep for me this year. Guess I will look and hope for this 99 deal later that many reference.
As I previously said, people are complaining like this over and over again after each release. Price is never good at release and always is later.

The difference this time is it's coming after disappointing FX4 upgrade pricing. My upgrade price from FX2 to FX3 was €29 (I had bought most of the fx they'd released between 2 and 3 for €29 a pop though) but then my upgrade to FX 4 was €129 and I had everything in 3 except for the rotary speaker. FX motions was €49 where every other recent fx plugin was €29 intro offer.
Yeah I also had weird pricing for the FX4 upgrade and I also had everything but the rotary speaker.

I bought X for €99, but in my account I can now upgrade for a mere €199 😂 - something's a bit wonky with those prices it seems

$149 update price for Augmented Woodwinds, CP-70, Acid V and Minifreak V comes out to $37.25 per instrument plus 3 free soundsets. Not a bad deal for me.

Yes, for some licenses, you can unregister them manually. If that does not work, you can ask support to do it for you. In my case, I had the option on some licenses but not others, so I had to ask support for help.

If I recall correctly, you will need to know the destination account before contacting support because they will want to do it all within one request (deregister + move to new account).

I trust that is a typo and you bought VC 9 for $99, like I did. I get that same pricing for the upgrade which is an easy no from me this time as it's only acid v and minifreak v that have mild interest to me.

So what about the new Minimoog v4?

Anyone compared it with The Legend, Softube, etc?

From this demo it does sound great.

Maybe I'm wrong but since the MS20 and then the 303 it does seem like Arturia has been seriously improving their emulation tech.

I have V9 and it’s $199 for V10. A $200/year program is NI territory and, I’m sorry to say this, but Arturia isn’t NI; i.e. it’s not providing the infrastructure for 50% of my and most everybody’s music making.

It’s just weird, aspirational, sort of annoying pricing.

So I’ll wait 3/4 of a year for the $99 upgrade. If they asked $120 now instead, I’d probably just do it now.

I hope they help you out, but this is such a weirdly over the top response. Was it written anywhere that upgrades are scaled based on the time from the previous version's purchase?

No one likes buying and then seeing a new product released shortly after, but you exchanged money for a product. I would assume it was worth it for you at that time. If it wasn't, why did you buy it? The company owes you nothing.
It was more a reaction that other people had upgrade offers of $149, and my offer was $199.
Agreed, the company owes me nothing.

Again if you own V9 and haven't bought any of the stuff released since then $199 is a fair price. There is a lot of new stuff between 9 and 10 if you didn't already buy the single releases. I don't think its aspirational pricing at all. There are 6 new instruments, 2 rebuilds of existing items, and 3 new sound packs included. For the mathematically challenged that's $33 per new instrument and not counting the sound packs/new versions.

That is all very obvious.

But I do this every year; that’s why I’m in the pool to be getting the $199 offer in the first place. When I line it up against other stuff, no it‘s not outlandish or crazy pricing but it does strike me as…. yes, weird and aspirational are good terms.

I might also feel a bit less hassled by it if, say, the MiniFreak were $69 instead of $99 so as to prod me into paying $199 for sparse orchestral samples layered with granular synths.

I like Arturia generally. That’s why I’m updating every year. Maybe what’s on offer just isn’t striking me this time. YMMV.

As someone who already owned most of what is on offer in this release trust me I'm with you on not striking ;) But you said "I do this every year" and don't mention if you bought any of the other stuff. If you do it every year and don't buy anything else its a good deal from a cost perspective. Now, whether what is on offer or not is enticing is a totally different story and clearly influences whether its "worth it" or not.

The segment about the feedback knob is around 5:30. It's a short demo buuuut it doesn't sound so good :P

Edit:

For reference here's the Starky Carr video where he compares the feedback of his own hardware unit with some plugins.

Off, yeah it's 299 for me as well. I have many other emulations and sample libraries of pretty much everything in here. I do have the other augmented series which are great, but AugWW is not being offered to me at a discount, so I'll wait on that.

Maybe this is just me but I've always found their classic emulations to be rather underwhelming and thin, compared to other available emulations of the same synths on the market (not to mention sample-based ones of the real deals). TAL, u-He, Cherry Audio, Softube, Korg, Moog to me all have way bigger and better sounding algorithmic recreations of most of these synths. Also Arturia's Piano is really meh.

That said I am a big fan of their non-classic-emulation plugins – Pigments and Augmented Series both live in my templates.
