FM synths

The experiments in analogue FM with the Pittsburgh Modular Taiga are going pretty well. This example was sampled into Halion. The range that worked on the Taiga was around two octaves; but sampled it can be played in a wider range and polyphonically. The effects are a mixture of analog and digital; I sampled it with analogue effects (saturation, compression, reverb and EQ) then added some EQ, delay and reverb in the box.

That's a cool sound, kind of half-way between a harpsichord and a krumhorn, pseudo-renaissance-like.

Yes, I think so too! There is definitely something of older instruments in there. The FM is providing something like layered or summed vibrato, which I think makes it sound a little less controlled and polished.
