Arturia Pigments 5

I'm finding I like what some of the presets do with the Harmonic (additive synthesis) engine... but apparently you can only have two of the non-utility engines active at once, so for example no simultaneous wavetable + harmonic + granular. Now that they've added multicore support for better cpu performance IDK why they don't allow for more simultaneous engines. I like being able to use six different engines of any type simultaneously in Equator2---but it doesn't have an additive synthesis engine. (OTOH Synthmaster 3 does and I'll probably be upgrading to that soon from Synthmaster 2.)

Opening Pigments up like Phase Plant might be even better but I'd guess it would require a lot more coding to redo the architecture.
I suspect this is wishful thinking, as Pigments seems to have planted its flag at the intersection of power and intuitive to many.
Having said that, it's an easy hack now, as you could set up 3 on one channel, bus them and then sidchain the bus into a 4th for a global fx finishing touch.

I thought the whole point of the free expressions sound bank was to highlight MPE functionality so it must a include a fair few out of the 150. A big bunch of which are Arrovane presets as well, not bad as a freebie / $7
The MPE patches in this Exploration Bundle by Arturia are not bad, I'd say. But from my viewpoint of sliding n gliding a Roli Seaboard 2 I'm finding that the presets of Roli Equato 2 are more thought through.

Yes just disabled again to see if the ASC was the culprit & indeed it was. I know UA Connect (for UAD plugins) is meant to run at login because the icon is right there in the menu bar. ASC seems to run at login as a background service.

Anyway getting back on topic here, I've demoed Pigments 4 & thought it was pretty good but didn't think it had much more to offer than the other synth plugins I have (Phase Plant, Serum, Hive 2, Ace, Bazille, Vital, Surge XT) I know shame on me for not yet owing Zebra.

My budget isn't really there for a new synth yet but I'll take a look to see what version 5 has to offer. I can get it for €69 until 13th Feb which is a pretty good price but I think I might be a bit synthed out...
Variety is the spice of life !….For $69 you get the excellent added features in ver. 5, as well as the expansion pack…..With everything else you have, it would be another brick in the wall !

What I'm wondering is whether it adds anything that isn't already done better by Equator2 presets. I prefer the sound of most of the presets in Equator2 anyway. And I also prefer the reverbs in Equator2. OTOH I like tweaking some of the additive synthesis engine presets in Pigments, but I don't know how much the Exploration Bundle uses additive synthesis.

For the generative sequencer---I've been reluctant to use melodic sequences from presets in part because of concerns about ContentID etc. Is that significantly less of an issue with the generative sequencer? Or are the types of sequences used in synth presets usually simple / traditional enough that ContentID isn't an issue? ... or does the generative sequencer generate the same pattern frequently enough that it wouldn't help much? OTOH I like gliding during a sequence (it's especially fun with a fast seqeunce), IDK how that might affect ContentID melody recognition. And when I went through some of my sequences in other synths last night I realized that I also like editing the sequences to suit my taste, and it's generally not that difficult, so my edits might make it so that ContentID etc isn't an issue anyway.

You can sort of in Analog Lab as it lets you create patches from two simultaneous instances of Pigments.

So, you already had [insert list here] before buying Pigments?
Definitely. Got rid of a lot of other synths in my setup as a result.

But still use a whole load of others and then I bought Falcon afterwards anyway so my opinion really isn't worth the html it's printed on.

Yeah on second thought, i'm probably full of it. Carry on.

Pigments is great though.

Are the three exploration preset packs for $20 any good? I'm inclined to think not, by the demo tracks, but I didn't see a preset preview.

Here is a quick video showing how to route external audio (dune 3 in this case) through pigments in the latest version of Logic. Figured it could help if anyone needed it.

The multicore is very welcome addition. Patches i built hovering around 60-70% are now around 30%.

Thank you for the video - I was doing it right! I was using a drumloop though. It's a pretty cool function but it doesn't help me address my overarching problem: finishing a song. lol

Hopefully someone will answer this. I wonder if the preset packs they put on sale are the ones that no one is buying at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that the offer on the bundle contains 3 new expansions, so no need to invoke any conspiracy.

The good news is that those expansions now finaly show up in the Analog Lab or Pigments in-app store, so there's 20 or so presets from each you can demo to see if you like 'em. NB - the bundle offer seems to be only available on the web.

(Incidentally in Analog Lab there's also a free new expansion of retro synth classics - imo not as good as their previous famous preset classics, but free is free).

Yes, it is as Guy mentioned, I bought the 69 Euro bundle, and apart from Pigments, you have all three explorations then downloadable in your products section of the Arturia Software Center.

Spent a few hours with it. Kinda strange, with that enormous list pf parameters, you seem not to be able to automate the Sequencer on/off function, or I am blind and did not find that.
