Zebra 3 Alpha Features

Of course, yes, Zebralette 3. Just the Z3 oscillator and MSEG with a few standard modules surrounding them.

The progress on Z3 is not small either, but the oscillator and MSEG are by far the biggest chunks of development. They will need by far the most beta testing and documentation, so it makes sense to get this package out first and do all these things while the rest of that team moves forward with the other things being worked on (UI, filters, Physical Modelling etc.).

I'd assumed you meant Zebra 3 and got very excited... oh well.

Are there any details on the plans for physical modeling yet?

My issue with a lot of physical modeling only synths, especially the ones that strive for realism, is that they tend to sound overly simplistic relative to samples of what they're modeling---but including PM in a (very) fully featured synth solves that. Here's hoping for physical parameters that can be (pseudo-)continuously modulated on a per-voice basis... things like size, shape, maybe material, etc.

Can't really say that much about Physical Modelling yet, as UI and feature set are shifting constantly. The comb filters however will be vastly improved versions of those in Zebra2. Additionally we also have resonators based on modal synthesis - but none of the sound designers had a chance to get a go with them yet (mostly because they're based on the oscillators, but that's a whole different story).

Each of these are building blocks that are not specific to any kind of real world object. We do have a bunch of very specific types of objects and materials in code, but we're kind of less intrigued by those. We seem to prefer things that have a broader sonic impact and which are less of an attempt to sound like anything particular. Those things seem to gel more with the other parts of the synth, and in the end it's all about how everything interacts in Zebra.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!

Edit:

It's just fucking amazing. I fear once Zebra 3 is released I will become (even more of) a hermit for the rest of my life.

Urs seems quite happy. Must be quite a feeling reaching this milestone and being able to show this to the world after so many years.

Some of those presets sound so realistic - particularly the cymbals and kalimba ones. And this is the *free* zebra. The full thing is going to be nuts.

Everyone has been waiting forever ever for Z3 and most people have probably overlooked what makes U-he such an amazing developer is they really love creating great products & will not rush something to market, nothing is ever 1/2 baked ,their releases are always A+
in this case it certainly looks like patience has been a virtue 👍

The new generation of Zebra looks and sounds like it will definitely be worth the wait,it sounds AMAZING!
