Does Best Service Engine even exist anymore?

You wont be happy with a Kontakt version then...
Say more... Are you referring to more general UI usage issues? But what about just on the level of readability... True, I've seen older Kontakt implementations that are microscopic in size and for my ancient eyes hard to read without squinting and getting real close to the screen. But most Kontakt I have use larger size fonts and thus are at least readable. The fonts in Engine are a combo of very tiny plus with an old squarish font type... and I find that combo particularly unreadable. So I'd be (at least partly) happy just to get a larger better font type. But I am assuming that as a developer, you are undoubtedly talking about much more than the look and feel....

I wonder whether Engine v3 or Infinite Strings will be here sooner.

There are one or two Tarilonte libraries that I really want to get, but I'm trying to hold out until the Engine v3 is released, in case there is going to be some kind of upgrade fee.

Well Kontakt uses bit-mapped fonts, so they don't scale - at all - Not sure about engine. In the end a development platform that supports vector graphics and OpenType and true type scalable fonts is pretty much a must these days. One of the reasons I left kontakt as a development platform, along with un-resizable UIs (or very limited resizing). But don't get me started...
