What's new

Does Best Service Engine even exist anymore?

I asked again about Engine 3 from BS and they said ”coming soon”. So nothing new, they’ve been saying that for the past 5 years
Yeah, they already confirmed that it is done but now they need to redo the libraries for it. This is why it takes so long.

Be prepared to buy everything again.

I think their main business is simply selling stuff.

And as Sonuscore is doing the devellopment for their kontakt stuff its mainly the Eduardo Tarilonte libs counting on the engine if I dont miss something.

And as great as they are but I wonder if they make much more then 1 % of their total sales, so.....

I think most of us would be completely fine with those libraries being moved over to Kontakt or something similar.

If their main business is simply selling stuff, they should probably stop trying to put things into a proprietary sampler they don't particularly seem to want to maintain (to be fair, they seem to have stopped doing that). I may not particularly like Spitfire and Orchestral Tools for their anemic samplers, but at least they seem to be actively developing those.

For now, Engine 3 is vaporware.

Eduardo did one Kontakt library: Accordions 2 (though the single instruments are Engine-based).

I was a bit surprised the later libraries and updates such as Forest Kingdom 3 and Celtic Era 2 continued to use Engine. I think there's a bit more to it than "just" porting the stuff to Kontakt. Though it might be a decision Eduardo is regretting now that Engine 3 remains MIA: he may have thought it was more imminent than it's turned out to be.

He's done quite a few - Shevannai, Kwaya, Cantus etc.

According to my (possibly wrong) notes, his other Kontakt libraries are Altus, Cantus, Kwaya, Mystica, Shevannai, and Whistler. Also, his pre-Best Service libraries (Anthology Vol 1: Celtic Wind, Anthology Vol 2: Spiritual Wind, and Sampled Landscape: Ambient World) were for Kontakt 2.

Does Engine 2 (or its cousin, Magix Independence) have any features that are difficult to implement in Kontakt and/or HALion and/or UVI Workstation and/or something else?

You can simply drag and drop MIDI files into them and play them with your keyboard in different ways to trigger samples. This is used for the performance patches in many libraries.

I don't think library developers can be be very happy with Best Service. I would certainly be livid especially since no VST support. I'll never be a big user of the many interesting libraries they have on offer because of Enging, but still love Eduardo's stuff so toughing it out for a while longer, but I imagine I'll be giving up on Engine this year and do without Eduardo's great libraries.

The only reason I use Engine at all is for Eduardos libraries. There’s nothing else in Engine format that I want or need. Some of Eduardo’s libraries are really special. Forest Kingdom for example - I’d buy it all over again if I could get it in Kontakt format and not have to use Engine any more.

Me too.

I asked about 6 months ago and was told Engine 3 is ready but they have to port all the libraries. It's pretty clear to me that Eduardo is not about to jump ship to NI.

TBH all I really want is a silicon version (which E3 will have I'm sure). I don't love the E2 player or the authorisation but I get by fine. As it is, if I have to use Engine on the macbook I can load it in a Rosetta instance of VE Pro.
