What's new

New Mac Pro and New M2 Ultra Mac Studio!!! (Yeah!)

I have always been under the impression that Macs can not run on an OS that predates whatever OS the model shipped with or whatever the current OS for the actual release of that specific Mac was.
Could this have changed?
The app store might let you download an earlier OS but will it actually install the older OS on a Mac that was actually released and delivered with a later OS?

You still have to jump through hoops to install an older version even though it seems it will let you download it. I went back in to the App store and tried to download Ventura anyway so that I would have it (just in case) but when it got to the end of the download it said I could not load this version onto my machine and consequently nothing was downloaded. So yeah, I guess we haven't given Apple enough money yet to let us have a little something our way

Just a FYI - The OWC Express 1m2 USB4 are on backorder until the end of March
I ordered a couple on Monday for delivery next day (Tuesday) and they didn't show up, yet they said they were "in stock" when I ordered them and paid for next day shipping - only to find out Wednesday they didn't have anymore :mad::sad:
For anybody looking for a fast USB4 enclosure due to the OWC being out of stock, Satechi has one that might be worth a try, with a $25-off coupon ("SHOWLOVE") through February 14th.

Thanks for that @rnb_2 ! They're actually a short drive from me but not open to the public. Was going to order 2 but the $25 off is for 1 only - so I ordered 1. Let's see how it does - I'll report here when it comes.

To solve the OWC dilemna I ordered an enclosure from Acasis to get me going with my new M2. Also bought a Sonnet Express SE IIIe PCIe enclosure for my Apogee Symphony card and 2 UAD dsp cards, but I only installed the Symphony card and 1 UAD so that I could also put in a PCIe nvme card with a 4TB Crucial P3+ to help get set up and running. So the Acasis and the Sonnet both have a Crucial P3+ running and they both are getting around 2250 R&W speeds - which is great for my needs.
Let's see if the Satechi, being USB4, will perform better with these drives.
