The White Noise Blast of Death -- I'm losing my mind

always try to have a limiter enable on master track when working. once IKM amplitube almost blew my ear drums out. i was tinkering with some mismatched virtual cabs in Leslie collection and moving mic placement around, and boom out of nowhere a +200db spike.

12, I was on the latest version of 12 when I upgraded

Mac Studio, Monterey, it seems like the plugin in question is The Prince by Cradle, all synths are disabled in my template by default and when I click on it to enable it… BAM, deafening noise
Mac Studio here too. Sounds like they need to update the plugin. Check the obvious updates and make sure you are in native mode.

I sometimes got very loud crackles, almost noise-blasts (I once checked my limiter and it said 680 dB or something) when switching between different tracks, but only if the session is close to overloading. Although sometimes it generates quiter crackles in smaller sessions too.

Could it be the mere act of switching between different tracks, which of course happens when clicking on another track to enable it?

Sadly can’t run in native mode, there’s still plugins I use that aren’t native yet

Yeah it seems to be when I switch to different tracks, I’ll try to make note of what exactly causes it next time it happens

That’s the problim then. Time to move on from those plugins or run them in DDMF Superplugin.

Grateful I discovered this thread. This cavernous blast has happened to me a small handful of times while recording and even on playback in Ableton. It hadn’t happened in quite some time until yesterday, mind you, with my headphones on. Good god was it terrifying. My wife heard it from the other room. It’s only happened to me when I’m running several or more plugins, with multiple instances of them at once. Example: three or four instances of Spitfire’s Intimate Strings. Thank you for suggesting Ice9. Downloaded it today and activates anytime there’s peaking.

Since the signal path is something like: plugins > DAW > audio interface > listener, shouldn't auto mute be placed either between the DAW and the audio interface or integrated into the audio interface (driver and/or hardware) itself for best protection?

I read this thread (and I've been reading similar ones for years) and randomly decided to slap the Cubase stock limiter on the Stereo Bus as I moved to version 12. Randomly (?) had a blast a week later with headphones on. Bad but nothing like if I hadn't. Strongly recommended heh

Shocked that this is such a common occurrence for many!

Thankfully, only ever experienced this once, but it was loud enough blow one of the tweeters on my monitors and cause a turtle head to poke out aggresivly.

It was after updating to windows 8 (what a car crash that was) Never got to the bottom of what caused it, was using Cubase as normal then out of nowhere got blasted. I suspect it might have been plugin or driver related, but will never know..

Does anyone know how to control Ice9? I have not figured out how to adjust the db threshold, and while this plugin works, now it’s constantly working even when I have no clipping or white noise blasts.
