Guy Michelmore - 11 Solo String Libraries Reviewed (YouTube)

I'm probably not the most perceptive person, I know that. :)
Could you point to what you have learned about composing while watching this video? (sorry if you find my question too intimate)

And it doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy this ~1.5h video. Once I started watching, I went to the end, despite it was late at night. His skills ARE precioussssss. :)
The problem with comparison is that they usually are afraid to tell the result...

And the major problem: without a proper consideration of worlflow types and stilistical goals the comparison is pointless

A key thing is that you discover your library, but this is only possible when your workflow is clear and mature for you. This also means to know a library well , meaning you experimented its weakness and strenght in many and very different compositions

For this reason comparisons are usually just a showcase, and helps you notice some libraries. It is hard to
analyse and show one library in less than 30 minutes!

At least one should mention the parameters of comparison. Which are they?

Programming
CC map
Timbre and tone
Mix
Reverb
Playability
Cinematic Mockcup
XMl Mockup
Englne and reliability
Price

But Guy does focus on composing part as well. He shows for free a part of what is in his course. And: solo strings is a problematic point of media composition, the hardest mockup next to solo voice, it is good to focus on what companies are offering.

One just has to understand that artists want to learn, not to be entertained all the time. This last one is for begginers, they need motivation, they are unsure if it pays of to learn piano, buy a 200€ library etc.... Some channels are for who is starting or to whom just want watch because it is fun. But the serious student needs more theory, facts, concepts, a more detailled demostration, „science“.

But when we show something serious it is likely to be not everything we know, or just some video that is not hard to do.Because it is hard to give away the best there where people are used to overlook things and not value it. To not mention be vulnerable to Plagiats. So youtubers try to find the middle way. This generation got very used to free content, free sample libraries, free music, free software no...?

Unless some charlatan is telling me that Jacob Collier is the greatest theory of our time , unless someone is doing the 123th video on negative harmony as if if were The Way, or other showing that Divisi Mate solved the workflow problems and finally improve the speed and quality of your (virtual) orchestration, or that a chord with 5 notes is a „secret, or that doubling instruments is a great „trick“..., that interlocking in brass is one of the 5 best orq. techniques (but no reference examples shown...) , unless things like this are overpopulating my feed i have my condolences with the accountable youtuber educator ;)

Fully agree and understand.
My only point is that this video is neither proper comparison review nor composition lesson. The sole purpose it serves, by design, is fun and encouragement. To learn and to buy tools: libraries and courses.
