In excellent overall condition, this violin is of fair workmanship and materials, with only a few minor marks to the spirit varnish. Prominently arched, it projects well, with exceptional clarity on the A and E strings, quite strong enough to hold its own in a traditional session... one for the fiddlers?

The bridge is original, cut well and stamped ‘Calow - Nottingham’, probably Francis William who may also have been the importer. Correctly put up and adjusted, with new ebony pegs, chinrest, period tailpiece and Dominant strings, there are no repair issues... this fiddle is ready for the road. Interesting exchange offers (violin family, good guitars and banjos, wooden flutes, concertinas etc) are always welcome. | ||
