Logic video frame not matching up when previewing

Hi,

I have a problem where Logic doesn't seem to match up the frame in the preview window when scrubbing (using Forward/Rewind one Frame key command) and when actually running the movie.
I'm using an mp4 video that had 25 fps and the project is set to 25 fps.

When scrubbing, it looks like the sync point should be 01:00:13:17. But when putting a midi drum hit there, it's really off when watching the playback.
When putting in a midi note "by eye and ear" so that it looks synced, it's at frame 01:00:13:07.

I'm probably missing something obvious here. Any ideas?

Use key-commands to scrub through the movie frame by frame, you can assign your own - I use "f" for forward and "g" for backward scrubbing. That way you can define exactly where the sync points are.

Thanks, but as I wrote;

So the issue it doesn't sync correctly so the wrong frame is shown when checking frames.

Ok, so I tried another short clip, and exported to movie, and noticed that the "scrubbed" timecode became the correct one then.

So the issue seems to be that the playback is offset for some reason when playing the project.

Update 1:

Just to rule out some stuff, I tried again with the original video (I converted it to 25 fps for some reason), which was 29.97 fps. Same thing happens basically, but I noticed something: when exporting what looks out of sync in Logic's timeline (but correct when looking at individual frames) I get hits at the correct locations when watching the clip in QuickTime, but I also tried it in VLC and there it's off in the same way as in Logic.

I also noticed VLC reports the frame rate in the video exported from Logic as 29.971364.
VLC reports the original video's frame rate as 29.97.

I feel like I'm going crazy here.

Update 2:

Tried with another video that I haven't messed with (an old video that was sent out for a competition). The same issue as in Update 1; syncing to visual frame sounds wrong in Logic and VLC but correct in QuickTime and macOS preview.

Update 3:

Just found someone with a similar problem. I'm also using a M1 mac. I'm running Logic in Rosetta, so I'm going to see what happens if I change it to Apple Silicon mode.
