What's new

Studio One 7 ?

When do you think it will arrive…
Earliest in fall 2024, but maybe next year, who knows. Now that 6.5 added long missed features like surround sound and Dolby Atmos, V7 needs to bring a lot new features.

So I wouldn't be astonished, if Presonus/Fender need longer this time.

When do you think it will arrive…I want to upgrade from 5.5 and upgrading to 6.5 now seems too close to 7 and I don't want to pay to upgrade twice.
Try the subscription for a month and see if it's worth the upgrade cost to you. Unless I am remembering wrong, Presonus charges less to upgrade from the most recent version (6 to 7) versus an older version (5 or earlier to 7). I'm quite happy with the changes introduced in v6 to v6.5, but your mileage may vary.

If you don't pay taxes at BestService wait for around April when they give you $20 or $40 off from purchases. Also check JRR Shop and add a reminder (BestService Wishlist) that notifies you when price dropped. Never upgrade at Presonus.

If money saving is your priority, the above is the way. 6.5 rather than the huge/large track amount that is expressed here from most everyone, it's all good. Like 5.5 was a big cornerstone so from 6.5 there's nothing extra that I find you'll need unless it's a really specific need. But listen, Two years ago people were bitching about Atmos, and there you are, since launch I haven't seen a single mix here using it.

6.5 will keep you busy to the point you'd even skip 7.0. Or don't you recall the other bitching when 6.0 was launched? " Why should I Upgrade for a Vocoder" was the argument, ah but 6.5 had the Atmos incorporated. Not the 6.0.

Should you wait for 7.5 better? And then you will keep waiting.

But in the meantime, Khlav Kalash 😁

There's really only one question: Do you want it now, have fun with it right away and make music with the new features - or can you wait?

It’s looks like a massive feature set upgrade to me !

Not long ago (maybe december?) Presonus sent a questionnaire asking which part of S1 needs most improvement, so they probably only started thinking about anything related to v7 and what upgrades it should include.

that is true about the survey

however I'm sure the dev team has lots of things requested over the years and have been in development of v7 ever since v6 was released

all of the products I've worked on over the last 40+ years we had multiple baselines for the code and lots of parallel development going on for things to be in dot releases and the next full release

so i'm sure v7 is well under way the survey was just to make sure the direction is still on track with user needs

Highly doubtful they're just now thinking of what upgrades v7 should include. Typically this is done when a Product team wants user feedback to make sure their roadmap/vision aligns with what their customers find important and can adjust the roadmap accordingly if there are any features that customers show a high demand for that maybe they didn't give as much weight too.

In my job, I sometimes get feedback from customers that is overwhelmingly positive for a feature in a release that I did not think would be a big deal.

True dis. Presonus most likely had v7 specced out LONG ago and is cooking that up - slowly.

Given the usual S1 version cadence - and the fact that V6 only landed on Sept 29, 2022 - we have a long time to go before v7.

If I were a betting man - I am thinking no sooner than this fall but more like Spring 2025 for an actual v7 release.

Sonic.
