Best ways to use Bricasti M7 impulse response files for orchestral mixing?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone uses Bricasti M7 impulse response files on their reverb buses for each family of the orchestra? if you do, I'd love to know how you go about it and if there are any best presets to use for woodwinds? brass? strings etc?

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!

I just use Seventh Heaven (lite version) and it does the job better than any impulse response that I've worked with so far. Certainly not the kind of answer that you're looking for, but I carefully compared a real M7 with the Seventh Heaven plug-in and it's so similar and so easy to use that I just trust it blindly. There is no pre-delay or stuff to configure, I eventually roll off the highs with EQ on the reverb bus but that's it. I spent too many years trying to get the perfect reverb and now I'm in (7th) heaven!

I VERY much agree with this. I used to own an M7. Seventh Heaven is amazing!!

Yeah 7th Heaven is the way to go. It uses multiple impulses to generate a reverb instead of a single impulse.

See this video for more info:

@robgb Any chance you can explain/share your Convolver setup for this person? Though I recall that one uses Zlin impulses...

I am just trying to set something like this up in my new template.
I use just one instance of "Medium & Near" or "Large & Near" Bricasti Impulse.
Then I have 4 send busses with pre-delay effects with different times set to emulate how far an instrument group sits - e.g. 30ms for the first bus - that would be strings, 25ms for the second, etc.). I also gradually increase the send levels to the busses - i.e. the first one is -20dB, the second one -17.5dB, etc. All the 4 busses then go to the same bus with Bricasti impulse.
Not sure if what I am doing is right, but I can hear a bit more depth and separation compared to just slapping one impulse on everything flat.

To do the convolver thing, you need Kiloheart's Snap Heap and Convolver. In Snap Heap you load four instances of Convolver, add an IR to each—Close, Decca, Wide, Far—and adjust the mix accordingly.

Yes, I use the Zlin IRs, but if you're using the M7 IRs, you could probably find good substitutes to approximate the above.
